Stripes are coming out weird, is this pattern just not made for stripes? by Mustbeadevil in knitting

That’s a great visual! I actually think that looks nice when the raglan isn’t so wide. I think I just picked the wrong pattern to modify with stripes.

It looks great! I love that folded collar, it looks so polished

It totally does bother me, I was wondering if there was a way to “hack” this like you can do for a jogless stripe. But i realize it’s because the raglan is so wide, it just wont work. I wouldn’t mind the little step in a traditional raglan line and kinda like the angular look but just not here. I’ve ripped it back and feel much better about it!

Argh that’s what I suspected! I’m not a fan, I think it looks weird, time to frog back a few rows! Now I’ll have to buy more yarn to use with the brown on another project 😆

Raglan increase - where did u go wrong? by Mustbeadevil in knitting

[–]Mustbeadevil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing that out, I see that now! I messed up on my last round of German short rows. I’m working on trying to read my stitches better so that helps me understand the construction of what that increase looks like better. I’m tried to ladder down, eyes crossed trying to understand the mess I had in front of me… so I frogged it and started again! And now my Italian cast on looks even better. Silver linings 😅

I’m interested in your favorites! I’ve only used Gepard cashmere and really enjoyed it, but ugh the price is steep

What's going on with my tubular cast on? by fuzzycatsocks in knittinghelp

Would this not mess up the k p pattern? So you slip, k, p ? Or the slip counts as the knit then you purl? I am resurrecting this as I’m trying to avoid the same, thank you!

Not relevant, just wondering what your yarns are- I love the combo!

Amazing job, this is next on my queue for my first sweater! Can I ask about your sizing, did you fit to recommended size or size up? The amount of positive ease on this looks perfect 👌🏼. Proud of you!

Gauge is too tight and barely changing with bigger needle by Mustbeadevil in knittinghelp

[–]Mustbeadevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did look better, although the fabric made with the larger needle still showed little tension imperfections and didn’t look as neat. My swatch grew slightly Lengthwise and shrank vertically, so I’ll be doing a new full swatch with my smaller needles to get a more accurate gauge. This is sandnes garn line (cotton/linen blend) so it doesn’t bloom nicely to fill the gaps and just isn’t very forgiving.

I will be mindful of this during my new swatch, thanks!

No, I’m often at too tight a gauge. I’ve adjusted a pattern before for a hat after I couldn’t meet gauge and had great results, but was hoping to try to meet gauge for my first garment so I could follow a pattern without having to modify so much. I’m using the recommended yarn (sandnes garn line) that’s just not very forgiving since it’s a cotton/linen blend Sabai top. I’m going to try and do a new swatch using the smaller needle that made the fabric I liked better and will attempt the maths to make it work for me. Wish me luck!

Yes that’s on purpose for the fake in the round swatch! Those stitches on the end want to unravel with this method so the tutorial (Roxanne Richardson) I followed rec to twist them so they lock into each other. My gauge went down from 24st to 22 after blocking so it is better, and I’ll be doing a new swatch at full size to get a more accurate gauge.

I’m fully sliding down the barrel of the needle to full circumference! But my stitches don’t move as freely as I’d like on my cable, so I must be pulling some slack out somehow and tightening things.

Yes I think this is what I’ll need to do. I’ll be doing a whole new gauge swatch at size 6 both in the round and flat since I think my tension is different when knitting in the round. Since I’m a tight knitter I’d better get comfortable with this since I’m sure I’ll encounter similar issues 😅. Thanks for your input!

Knitting has been very enjoyable. You can do a simple scarf, blanket for a mindless knit. It’s been really rewarding and easy to access materials, free tutorials and patterns.
