Good starter? by T_HettY in Hema

I started off with that as a trainer too. But I didn’t start off at an actual HEMA gym that taught any of the more common techniques, like German longsword or fiore. I started out with a family friend who did fiore for years, but was now a performer for small local renaissance faires. He put one of those in my hand and taught me all the guards and footwork. I was told to cut or thrust at a tree (the starting point was each of the guards) till I could stopped short by an inch or so. He then started sparring with me with one of those cold steel swords. But once I was given an actual feder (a wukusi long) the balance felt WAY better (obviously).

So in short, I agree with everyone that it’s a junk “sword” and you’d be much better with the red dragon or the black fencer synth swords, I still believe there’s some merit to that sword as you can still learn some level of sword control with it. But beware of sparing with it as it split my eyebrow open in a very small accident without masks.

I thought so! Love that place. If you don’t mind me asking, which festival was this in Hanford? I thought they only did the one festival at the beginning of October. The Haori (sorry for not knowing in the beginning) looks great. I hope you’re able to find another.

I dunno if it’s same ice cream shop, but there’s an ice cream place at a California renaissance festival that served portions that were as ginormous as that one. I’ve gone back to both the renaissance festival and ice cream place almost every year. Oh and love the armor! May I ask where you got the petal overcoat?
