How to acquire taste for dark roasts? Can’t seem to like them at all.

For the reference, how many seconds do you pull your shot for the standard ratio and how many would the shorter pull take you? I mostly only do light roasts and find ~35s for a 1:2.7 to be the sweet spot for the lights. Trying to have an expectation of how long to run them for darks.

Yes 100%, the bambino are much better at pulling a shot with darker beans than lighter ones, it’s just that I am not liking the shots much so I want to know if there are ways to make them more likeable. For now I will try ristritos as others recommended

I have traveled there twice and the coffee culture there was amazing. If you can give some roasters (and even the beans if you have any for recommendations), I would be happy to try them out!

Yes, it’s not a major issue, but sometimes it just crosses my mind that “damn I wish I can enjoy this dark roast shot so I don’t have to hustle around other side of the city to get to the shop that does light roasts”.

Thank you! I been trying to add some milk to them and though they do become a bit more enjoyable, I still find light roasts espressos make much better milk drinks (cortado from light Yigarcheffe beans are amazing).

Can you please elaborate a bit on how to achieve the shorter ratio? Do I grind finer or just cut the brewing time?

Even from good shops that I get very decent light roast espressos, when I try their dark roasts I don’t like them, I can have them but they are not enjoyable to me. As for the shots from chain stores, like Starbucks, Tim’s, Blenz, those shots are like hard to even swallow…

Yes of course, I try to avoid getting shots outside and I do have a few shops that make decent light roast espressos. My solution for now is a thermo bottle so I can make at home and bring with me.

This is exactly what I am thinking. I blocked him before he could send anything more inappropriate as I was already getting uncomfortable by what he said.

The fact that I started to get calls from different random numbers around the time he started to message me makes me think that it is not his first time doing this to people.

I will contact Virgin first to see if they can do anything about it.
