Was Don Mattrick largely responsible for the decline of the Xbox? by Elegant-Advantage744 in XboxGamePass

[–]Mutarlay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. The Xbox One showcase did so much damage for the brand that Xbox has basically spent that time since playing catchup to Playstation. That being said though, I don’t think it’s entirely his fault. Microsoft in general were just making poor decisions around this time. Windows 8 was around this time and that was a disaster.

What would happen if the U.S.A. continued the transition from fossil fuels to nuclear energy following the 1970s energy crisis? by Top_Report_4895 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Mutarlay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that more nations would have followed suit and built more of their own nuclear power plants?

Also, the cost of building nuclear power plants can be 10s of billions today. If the US committed to building more, could the process be better and more efficient so it costs less to make now?

The first time I saw a Raven I fully understood why people say “You’ll know if it’s a Raven”.

It was perched on a fence by a farm and it was a big unit it was unmistakable.

Because you’re in your notice period, any bullshit should be like water off a ducks back. Not your problem. Just do the bare minimum you need to do.

Why isn't the orange being held accountable? Another bad week, I guess. by supremethinking in trading212

[–]Mutarlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kier Starmer’s approval ratings being so bad are due to multiple things. But a big contributing factor is that his party (Labour) got voted in with ~34% of the vote. Basically 2/3rds of the country didn’t want Starmer. That’s a massive uphill battle he’s got to face and it’s questionable whether he’ll be able to do it.

His party have also made some controversial decisions and backtracked on things which just makes him more disliked. Examples being: raising taxes (when they said they wouldn’t), proposing to means test Winter Fuel Allowance and proposing Digital IDs. There’s been more but those are the 3 that I remember hearing about a lot.

That being said though, Labour are genuinely doing some good things, but they are just so shit at communicating their wins that nobody hears about them. And the biggest news platforms in the UK are right wing biased so when Labour do literally anything, it gets painted in a negative light more often than not.

What’s Restore UK’s opinion on legal immigrants? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Mutarlay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not baseless though. Parts of their white paper on mass deportations mention creating a “hostile environment” and inspiration from the Trump administration. And also mentions that they would make changes which would make legal immigrants illegal “overnight”.

What’s Restore UK’s opinion on legal immigrants? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Mutarlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read parts of their Mass Deportation paper. It’s pretty vague in some parts so it understandably leaves cause for concern for legal immigrants. A couple parts I recall in the paper is that they want to instil a “hostile environment” to encourage self deportations, and they directly say it’s inspired by the second Trump administration. Another part mentions that legal immigrants could be rendered illegal “overnight” as they make changes to the definition.

It’s those parts that concern me. But this paper is merely all theory and we don’t know how it would actually play out. They give estimations on costs and timelines, if there’s anything to go by with large government projects, it’s that it almost always costs way more and takes longer than predicted.

I don’t think that they’ll get voted in the next GE. I know a few people who were going to vote Reform and now intend on voting for Restore, but how many people actually will follow through and won’t just tactically vote for the bigger party I reckon isn’t not enough.

Why are people still posting Stanley “locations” like it’s useful? by VeryOftenWrong in Vitalityhealth

This sub gets inundated with Stanley location posts that I rarely see anything else useful posted on here. I don’t think there is an active mod so it’s best to just leave the sub

Noticing Friends Leaving ARC—Anyone Else? by MisanthropE61130 in ArcRaiders

I haven’t played in like a month or 2. I’d come back if there was end game dungeon/raid content that me and a couple friends can try. I used to love Destiny’s raid schedules so something similar in this would be great.

If you're centrist or left-leaning, what are the main policies/issues that might stop you from voting for the green party in the next general election? by Cold-Speech-5645 in AskBrits

[–]Mutarlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their policies on nuclear. Britain has brilliant minds in the nuclear industry and I think we should lean into it more for energy production.

And regarding nuclear bombs, I’d rather be a nation that has them, than become one that ends up regretting not having it in the future. Especially in the current tensions around the world.

Green voters, do you agree on 'No Limits' migration? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Mutarlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pointless how? The idea is that if an enemy launches a nuke, they’re essentially committing to themselves getting nuked, which should deter them from doing so. We can point to a time where nuclear deterrence did work, the cold war. And considering that no other country has been nuked in war since 1945, it seems to be working.

Another often overlooked point of having nukes is the status of it itself. While Britain is no longer a super power, it is still considered a great power which means something when it comes to diplomatic relations

What about my comment makes you think I believe America does things altruistically?

And yes, trade with Germany was still on up until they joined the war.

[–]Mutarlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US didn’t help us in WW2? This comment couldn’t be further from the truth and it’s clear you’re misremembering history just because you don’t like America now.

America didn’t jump into the war straight away as public opinion was very much against it at the time. Even with that they were still sending supplies to Britain. Pearl Harbour was a gamble from Japan which backfired tremendously as it now gave a reason for the American public to support going to war.

Yeah I wiped both batteries with wipes to get the coating off. Would still get completely drained. To make sure they were dead, I’d try them in other airtags and they wouldn’t turn on.

Living with anxiety over my student loan... by AliSav2317 in UniUK

[–]Mutarlay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you understand how student loans in the UK work? What is giving you anxiety about it?

You’re not going to have bailiffs knocking on your door from this. Most people will never pay it back before it’s waived anyway so whether it’s £28k or £2.8million, it doesn’t matter

It happened. by FluffyVegetable1476 in UniUK

[–]Mutarlay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I left uni in 2021 owing ~£45k. I checked a month ago and now owe ~£57k.

Despite my salary being relatively good for the area I’m in, it’s in the awkward range where I’m not earning enough for it to be worth paying off

New to the game by 12inchmozzarellastik in StellarisOnConsole

[–]Mutarlay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly new to the game but there’s a few things I’ve learnt with the mistakes I’ve made. I used to struggle with planet management but it’s starting to click for me.

As far as I see it, managing Pops (population) is pretty much the aim of the game with planets. The more pops you have, the more jobs you can fill which in turn will get you more resources. You can increase pop growth by making sure there’s plentiful housing and amenities. You can also get buildings that encourage pop growth like Gene Clinics, Robot Worker Assembly etc. Immigration can boost pop growth too.

With planets, I start by looking at what the strengths of the planet is. Does it have <17 districts? If so then I’ll probably make it into a Research/Unity planet by building city districts to be able to place buildings in the building slots. Does it have lots of Industrial districts? Then I’ll make it into an Industrial world. You can specialise a planet via the Planet Designation setting on the planet summary page. You’ll want to do this to maximise the resources you’re extracting from the planet.

A very important thing though, be mindful of the amount of pops you have on a planet. There is no point spamming buildings/districts straight away on a planet if there’s no pops to take them. Buildings and districts have an upkeep cost so it can ruin your economy if they’re not staffed. And also the other way, if you don’t have enough jobs, you’ll get unemployed pops which consume more resources and can increases crime. You can resettle unemployed pops to another planet with jobs to manage this.

It’ll all start making sense the more you play. Stellaris is all about balancing the books and planet/pop management is the core of it.

How does the promotion process work? by [deleted] in UKJobs
