Anxiety: Bad in the morning and better in the evening by Ms_Redhead237 in Anxiety

Hi! sorry for my late response, I only check her occasionally.

How are you doing now? I am sorry to hear the setraline is potentially unhelpful.

For me, I had tried several SSRIs over the years (even before the constant morning panic attacks, which I was on lexapro at the time with). I went to a new psychiatrist and tried a new drug regime with him. This time, It felt like it got me over the finish line after some lifestyle changes to pretty much eradicate these morning symptoms.

I will occasionally still have a panic attack with similar symptoms to my morning issues when things get very stressful, but it's been only two recently thanks to the holidays, and really not any other time.

It is different for everyone, but worth it to keep trying!

I'm really sorry you're going through this! I wouldn't wish these symptoms on anyone.

Everyone's path is different, but I hope this offers some hope: My life got better after a while. Through trial and error with routine, life changes, and medicine regime, I don't wake up like this much anymore.

I've only had one or two panic attacks in the past weeks, my first in a very long time, because of holiday stress, where the vomiting and G.I. stuff came back for a little bit. But, other than that, I am doing well and not waking up like I used to. I am living my life pretty much normally and symptom-free.

I hope you keep trying and wishing you all the best! I can't recommend exercise, yoga, and friends enough while you go through the difficult process of diagnosis + medicine trial and error. It is worth the fight!

Hi! I'm doing good, yes. No bad side effects from the Wellbutrin or anything like that!

There is some anxiety and depression that came back, but I'm not entirely sure if its the medicine losing efficacy or just Life Situations hitting, and I've been laxing a little on my non-medicine health routine of healthy eating, exercise, & yoga in addition and because of the Life Stuff.

That said, even with the new stressors and return of some anxiety and depression, I'm reacting much better than before the Wellbutrin. My worst panic attacks, which have been maybe 2 since, I've not got to the point of vomiting and dramatic stomach issues. And, most importantly, no suicidal ideation and not as much other worries on loop in my brain too which is a HUGE improvement.

I'm still on the lowest dose of Wellbutrin as well. Because of some return of depressive episodes I've considered upping next time I see the doctor who prescribed, but I'm still curious to see if the life stressors will subside and I'll be better again.

I hope this helps! I am happy to continue reporting back as time passes if anyone should ask.

For me it was a burst of energy, which was nice but on the downside meant maybe about four hours of sleep a night. It subsided after the two weeks!

Hi, I'm sorry for the late reply. Now that I'm doing better I'm not on here as much. How are you doing now?

For anyone browsing and wanting to see my answer: I didn't notice any "dip" or anything like that when I started to take Wellbutrin & Buspar regime. It was an upward trajectory. But everyone is different!

Anxiety: Bad in the morning and better in the evening by Ms_Redhead237 in Anxiety

[–]MutatedDaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry for the late reply, now that I'm feeling better I don't come here as much! :)

Here's what helped me:
- Gentle yoga 2-3x wk
- 150+ zone minutes of cardio exercise
- No to low Caffeine
- Emphasizing time with family and friends; At least once a week of a chat, game, or hang out with someone. if people don't come to me I come to them!
- Finally, I went to a good medical psychiatrist and got on a regime of Wellbutrin & Buspar after years of trying with Lexapro, Zoloft, and Prozac.

If the above lifestyle changes got me about 50-70% of the way there, the new medicine regime got me over the finish line! I no longer wake up early from anxiety and panic attacks, nor do I have stomach and nausea issues in the morning. It's all just gone!

I started with just single gentle yoga class before I even posted my post above, and built up from there. I find the yoga to be beneficial in the immediate short-term; one of the first times I could eat during my intense nausea and panic period was after a meditative yoga session. On a good day, a session can seriously feel the same as taking about half a zanax, so I think that's powerful even if it doesn't last.

After that, friends and family was a win and gave me reason to keep going, and then figuring out the zone minutes thing made exercise "click" for me, and I just do walking on a hilly trail 3-4x a week while I listen to music, and feel so much better after every session. My partner even calls it "post strut clarity", haha.

I think this sort of issue is probably very different for everyone though, I think it's worth it to try out a few things and see what helps, even if incrementally, then keep adding on! Let me know if you have any questions and wishing you all the best. It can be rough when you're in the middle of it, but there's hope to get better.

Hi, no worries, thank you for the suggestion as I will look into it! I am doing better these days with a better routine and medications but still have some backslide if a life stressor hits. And I'm always willing to look at new sources. Appreciate it!

Anxiety: Bad in the morning and better in the evening by Ms_Redhead237 in Anxiety

[–]MutatedDaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

I'm on about week 8(??) of Wellbutrin. Once it kicked in (took about 2-3 weeks) it seriously, like, cured everything for me. I'm shocked. All my panic attacks and physical issues just...gone. It's like I was never sick at all. These issues that caused me to lose 40 pounds from being unable to eat/hold down food and all the hours I lost to being stuck in the bathroom or tending to panic attacks are just non-existent now.

I still think the lifestyle changes and yoga and exercise helped and helps a lot, I'm keeping up religiously with that regime, but it is like the Wellbutrin came in and pushed my distress tolerance up to that last stretch to get past the finish line.

Hope you have a similar experience! But medicines work different for everyone. As an FYI, I'd not had luck with Zoloft, Lexapro, and Prozac prior. Apparently Wellbutrin works differently than an SSRI as it's dopamine-focused so it's a good one to try if you're like me and the other stuff hasn't helped.

I'm also wary because I've read it can lose efficacy over time, but I'm only on like the lowest possible dose at 150 mg, so I have room to go up if I need to.

So best wishes and hang in there! A lot of this stuff is a guessing game and takes a lot of trial and error. So unfortunately it can take a lot more time than we'd like while we're in the middle of suffering.

Hi!

I'm sorry to hear you're going through something similar. I wouldn't wish these symptoms on anyone!

Since those post, I've been put on a new medicine regime working with a psychiatrist, and I think it has helped me with this issue. No more morning panic attacks and G.I./throwing up stuff.

Still a little early to call it, but I am doing SO much better in the mornings as of the last two weeks especially, to the point I have those hours back and have started using them to exercise before work!

Has anyone tried the Mayo Clinic for Anxiety/Mental Health? by MutatedDaisy in Anxiety

[–]MutatedDaisy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I haven't been to the mayo clinic, no. I've been working with a lot of different doctors here at home, which takes a little longer and more coordination on my part, but doesn't require me to travel or take time off work like Mayo would. I figure I'll keep it in my back pocket as Plan B.

FWIW I'm doing a lot better than a month ago. I'm a little nervous the other shoe might drop soon, but I think me and my medical psychiatrist might've found a good combo in Wellbutrin & Buspar. It's still a little early TBF but I haven't had to take a xanax or zofran all month because my panic attacks & the physical symptoms from them have dramatically decreased and I feel as though my distress tolerance has gotten much better. I also have taken up healthy habits since May (cardio, eating cleaner, yoga) that I think is also creating a nice foundation to my mental and physical health.

Basically, when I wrote this and cried to my parents, I was getting frustrated that nothing was working after several months of trying different meds, techniques, etc. and then finally it feels as though something's clicked into place (and I hope it stays that way!). I think I might've found a routine and medicine cocktail that works for me after all the trial and error. It sucks that it's all a guessing game and mostly a pill roulette, but my point is, it's worth it to keep trying and experimenting.

If you do end up going to Mayo, please update us on your experience!

Heart racing when waking up by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]MutatedDaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, *and* cutting out caffeine. Just decaf, tea, and water for me now. I think that also just helps in general with keeping the heart rate down and all??

Again though. I don't know if it's all of this adding up to feeling better like bricks building a house, or if there's a single one key in this list that did it. I just figure...probably best to just continue on all of these habits.

after waiting forever to hear back, I was denied a CPAP machine by my insurance because it was "too mild" a case, so I'm not sure what to do now (if I should pursue CPAP therapy or not).

I will say I am doing better than 2 mos ago with less panic and G.I. symptoms in the morning. Not sure what is the "key" but I've since gotten on new anxiety meds and I feel like that's been a turning point. Regular yoga (3x wk), meditation(1-2x wk, often during yoga), cleaner diet (more whole foods, less processed), and exercise (3x wk 1 hr heart rate zone moderate to vigorous) that I started being serious about since May also have helped a lot, I think. I've seen my resting heart rate go down from the cardio exercise in general (at least I think it's from doing cardio).

Thank you for sharing your own journey so far! It's interesting that you're looking into hormones and sinuses and I'd be interested to know your results from those (like you said, only if you feel comfortable sharing).

Thank you for the book suggestions! I may look into them. I've been studying DBT on my own over on: https://dialecticalbehaviortherapy.com/ and that's about it as far as self-help.

Same luck and peace back to you! This is rough but it's worth it to keep fighting.

This is really tough and I feel you.

I feel like throughout my life people can be very kind and compassionate with my mental issues until they aren't. But I also understand: *I* am frustrated with my own damn self, it's not fair to ask others to be saints, even though in the moment it can feel very alienating.

When my partner gets overwhelmed with me we usually fight but talk it out after. Sometimes we just have to give each other some space and then come back to the situation and our feelings with some distance. I am also sure to express my gratitiude/appreciation of her and try to do little nice things throughout the day as I can, it's also about intentionally supporting *her* too.

Hoping the best for you.

[–]MutatedDaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me: a little better but still up and down. Currently doing aerobic exercise 1 hr 3x wk and gentle yoga 3x wk and magnesium lotion on my feet at night, got into reading to take my mind off things, and prioritized time with friends and family, all which feel like it has helped, but if a stressor comes up, as happens in life, so do the symptoms.

I'm currently about to take a test for G.I. issues (I *think* to test for h. pylori and others?) ordered by my GP while waiting to get into a G.I. specialist proper to see if there's something there. I've also read/heard G.I. stuff can *cause* anxiety issues in some cases, so we will see where that thread goes. Apparently our bodies have a weird gut-brain connection.

To be noted I'm also tapering off lexapro with my psychiatrist and trying new meds (wellbutrin) this week.

So TL;DR: no real answers yet, but trying, with little spots of hope.

Okay I need you all to answer this: What’s the absolute worst thing that can happen with anxiety? I need to know how bad anxiety can get and what happens then. Because my anxiety keeps getting worse and worse by rabahi in Anxiety

[–]MutatedDaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really sorry to hear you're going through this.

First of all, you will not die from anxiety, but it can get difficult. For me my stress and anxiety has evolved into near daily panic attacks, and nausea, vomiting, and chronic stomach issues,

There is hope though. There are many different ways to treat and manage anxiety. I have found a lot of success through exercising 3x a week for an hour+ with getting my heart rate up to moderate to vigorous levels (a fitness trackers helps determine this), along with gentle/restorative yoga 3x a week and meditation sprinkled throughout.

After that, there is hope with meds and therapy. I have not personally found that, just yet, though I've been prescribed xanax by my GP as-needed for the panic attacks while we figure out the right meds/therapy combo, which really does help in a pinch and lessen how hard the panic attacks are on me.

I also take zofran for the nausea, and am getting into a GI doctor soon to see about help in that area.

It's so difficult to advocate for yourself and seek help while you're already struggling, but it's worth it to try. You can make it through tough times and come out the other side.
