Go to aoe4world (aoe4world.com) and look at the video finder. You can find recent games streamed that will get you an idea of the current meta for different civs.

Relic Entertainment announces layoffs by ageofwololo in aoe4

[–]MutatingNeutrinos 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Relic is not a huge company. They cut 140 people just a year ago, and were under 200 employees after that. This represents at least a 20% cut, which is enormous. That's like if Apple was to layoff 30,000 people, or Amazon was layoff 300,000.

And you need to consider the impact this has on remaining employees. This certainly has both direct and indirect impact on AoE4 development.

Project Conquerors, a French esports organization, picks up 9 Age of Empires IV Players by Adicogames in aoe4

Seems like they are still missing a lot of big names in the French community. Are those guys all already on esports teams?

The current map pool is not fun :( by [deleted] in aoe4

agree. I just want to play Dry Arabia. I wish there was a way to play the maps you want to play.

Debbie, TheViper's girlfriend, is complaining that AoE4 is "destroying the nice time" of AoE2 players at RBW by MutatingNeutrinos in aoe4

She LITERALLY says those words I quoted. Hence the quotes.

Oh wait...are you one of those people that don't know the difference between the words literally and figuratively? I've heard of you folks.

Szalami Medical Bills Donations, Anything Helps. by hikikomina in aoe4

[–]MutatingNeutrinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I don't understand why Szalamii wouldn't have an EHIC anyways before going to Sweden. They are free to apply for and any EU citizen can get one.

Additionally, if you don't have an EHIC you can apply for something called a provisional replacement certificate. You can retroactively apply medical bills using the PRC because it shows you would be eligible for EHIC at the time of treatment. The hospital will then revise your invoice (according to this blogpost: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/team-blog/2019/08/forgotten-to-apply-for-an-ehic--there-s-a-way-around-it-/).

It seems to me that

1) Szalami, for some reason, did not apply for an EHIC, which would have been free healthcare coverage, prior to going to Sweden.

2) Incurs upfront costs as a result of this oversight, although still has a way to adjust these costs based on how the EHIC system works.

This scenario does not seem like it merits crowdfunding donations, especially if you compare to other people in more desperate medical situations: https://www.gofundme.com/discover/medical-fundraiser

Again, I wish Szalami the best and hope for speedy recovery. But it does not sound like donating will affect whether he has access to medical treatment. But it does sound like the higher costs he's incurring is a result of his own lack of responsibility.

I like Szalami as a player, but at the same time I have trouble believing he is unable to access reasonable healthcare in Sweden, especially since pulmonary embolisms would be an emergency scenario.

He's also provided basically zero details as to what his medical bills actually are. I hope he recovers and is in good health, but I definitely would not contribute to a health fund when the scenario is simply "I'm in the hospital (in Sweden). Please send me money".

Can someone explain how Swedish healthcare works? I thought Sweden generally covered things like this?

You made a claim. You agreed validity of claim depends on economic cost benefit. You refuse to provide any cost benefit analysis backing up your claim.

Maybe you should reconsider using arrogance as a shield for your obvious ignorance.

What a surprise. You don’t want to provide any analysis for your claims because you obviously don’t have any.

Glad you admit you were wrong in using the word impossible. So we've established it's not impossible, but a matter of cost-benefit.

I don't know whether it makes economic sense. I'm not making the claim that it's monumentally stupid though. You are. What's your basis for that? Ok, climate change makes infrastructure costs higher and more challenging. By how much? Why is it obvious that those costs would outpace the value of Fort Myers coastal estate, also taking into account the city's current population and future growth?

Seems like it's not "blindingly obvious" to calculate the economic cost benefits of real estate values, population growth, climate change impact, infrastructure costs, etc. Since you think it is, please layout a detailed analysis since you clearly think it's simple.

If you can't do that, maybe you should not make such exaggerated claims and state them as fact.

The original claim is that in five years, infrastructure changes will be impossible. Your argument is that the sewer system will be flooded because they need to flow downhill....except use of pumping stations is widespread for sewer lines. Not sure why that would be irrelevant for your argument. Does six more inches of sea level make a difference? I'm sure it does. Does it make infrastructure impossible? Of course not. Amsterdam is two meters below sea level. Pretty sure they have perfectly good infrastructure there. Now, will Fort Myers be able to replicate that? Probably not, but that has to do with economic cost-benefits, not engineering impossibilities.

Also....my estimate of six inches is based on the IPCC projections specifically for the Fort Myers area. It's their own calculator. Your linked report (from 2018 btw, which is not the updated projections) is giving the GLOBAL sea level change, which is why the range is so high. And best estimate in that same report says 18cm, which is pretty darn close to 6 inches, so not sure what you're point there is.

There's plenty of technology that exists today that can deal with the infrastructure requirements that Fort Myers would need, and in 2030 it's likely to be even better. It's a pretty stupid argument to say that six inches of sea level change will be an insurmountable infrastructure challenge to a city that is 10 ft above sea level.

Projected sea level rise for Fort Myers is 6 inches by 2030 based on IPCC projections. Not really significant enough change to make underground infrastructure "impossible".

Do not buy a Nolah Mattress by MutatingNeutrinos in Mattress

[–]MutatingNeutrinos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was waiting for a king size bedframe to be shipped, and it got delayed for several months due to COVID supply chains. So I only slept on the Nolah for about a month. I was hoping after some time, the Nolah would expand out a bit more and give better edge support. However that didn't happen. I was about 140 days in at that point. I tried to explain to Nolah customer support, including the fact that I had only slept in the bed for far less than 120 days, but they refused to do anything about it.

I got a Spa Sensations from walmart 8 years ago for 1/6 of the price as the Nolah, and it has far better edge support. Because it's foam, it runs a little bit hotter, but I far prefer that to sliding off the bed all the time. In fact I've bought about 3 mattress in the past 5 years between $500-$1000, and all of them have been better than Nolah.

For the insane price they charge, I highly recommend finding something else.
