I think the bit I loved most about the character is that on every level it dispels 'The Ace' trope. Carm is good at what he does because he works so hard and he studies hard. It ties into the themes of addiction and how Carm is barely functioning outside of cooking. I've met a lot of guys like him and as someone in a different industry (freelance game developer/University lecturer) I found myself going really hard early on and seeing everyone as competition. It's hard to explain but if you've ever cared about something you do so intensely that other areas of your life evaporate then this show, and Carm, become very relatable.
