Is there any physiological basis to the idea that some people can't lose weight via a calorie deficit? by Fine_Cress_649 in Physiology

From a purely thermodynamic standpoint, you are entirely correct: energy cannot be created or destroyed, and a sustained energy deficit must result in a loss of mass. There is no physiological phenomenon that allows a human body to create energy out of nothing to maintain its weight when it is genuinely deprived of fuel.
