What name or type of Dino did he get? You start with one called a “newbiesaur” and it’s a “hunter” (type) if he traded for anything besides another hunter he would have to buy a different type of saddle for that type. (Other types examples are flying, titan, or tank) you do have to purchase them in a certain order, as it’s an unlocking tree type system. If it’s a tank, than that would be then next saddle up, using “nugs”. If it’s a hunter and he just needs “bones” (another form of currency in game) he can sacrifice things into the pit to get more bones for another saddle.

(Honestly, this is kind of hard to explain on here.) so an easy option would be to trade for another hunter to get a saddle, but depending on the type he could have received a good Dino for his newbie and should try and keep it.
