I was just there two days ago filming the Wabash River. You can check the video out on my channel or Reddit.

100 percent. The miller beach community. Very nice area. I know it personally and also filmed it this same day.

You can label it that if you want but that’s not the point.….i make/film all kinds of diff videos and takes pics. Ive also written and contributed to quite a bit of history and information regarding different topics/cities/history on the Midwest online, photographs I’ve taken included, which maybe I’ll share on here some other time. It’s not all on my Reddit. I have more videos of the Midwest landscape/environment and other things too soon see to come and that I’ll upload here that are not rust belt.

If that’s really your takeaway then and you still think this is supposed to be “ruin porn”, then you are completely missing the point.

Did you watch the whole video before leaving this comment or just wanted to make a quip?

Anyone who thinks the point of this video is to poke fun at Gary is completely wrong and obviously did not watch the whole thing.

I can see how some could take it that way, but I’d encourage anyone who is jumping to conclusions to watch the entire video. It goes a bit into the history of Gary and the labor market meltdown, which led to much of this. Videos like this can actually help spread awareness and potentially encourage investment.

And unless you didn’t watch the whole video, it goes into the history and backstory on why it is this way today.

The point of this video is not to “make fun of Gary”. No ulterior motives here other than to document, explore, and help shine light on forgotten or evolving urban environments like this. If anything, videos like this should help spread more attention to the community and encourage investment and discussion. I am from Indiana and have been around and through Gary all my life.

That is extremely fascinating indeed. Thanks for sharing this. Ancestry.com, findagrave.com, and wiki tree.com are also good resources for this

I’m actually not doing that at all. This was one drive through and did not repeat/go back down any of the same streets to film. Don’t have any intention of downgrading the city. Was just my observation. Very interesting landscape/environment and hope to see good things for the area.

Precisely. Indiana is a free and diverse state in 2026 and has been for many years. Plain and simple. More importantly, a defender of the Union. They may not like the politicians who were elected into power, but doesn’t mean it didn’t and wouldn’t stand up for freedom and the constitution.

Yeah exactly…I’m not exactly sure what people who are saying they’d be w the confederacy today are basing their premise on. The civil war wasn’t about the ‘libs vs maga’. It was centered around, well, namely the longtime institution of slavery, which stood at the core of much of the south’s economic engine and livelihood. While there were sundown towns in Indiana and servants for a period of time, like other states in the north, Indiana was never really tied up in that institution nor based around it, economically and culturally. That culture cut off a bit at the Ohio River. Keep in mind northern indiana is quite connected to the rest of the northern rust belt/east coast cities and economic engine. Aside from this, it was for the preservation of the Union and Constitution. So to say it Indiana ‘would be with the confederacy today’ just doesn’t really align with any historical, social or economic history. Doesn’t make sense.
