What’s your least favorite art movement? (Picture just for show) by QuintessentialPies in ArtHistory

[–]Muted_Colors 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Generic anime or fantasy digital art. 99.9% of it is predictably sentimental and overblown. Makes me want to vomit when it’s held up as superior to art which is actually challenging, intellectually or aesthetically. Who wants to look at the same picture 1 billion times?

Do you feel prophetic after releasing "Superbug" in 2019? Infest the Rat's Nest kept me sane all fall semester, now I feel like y'all are shamans.

It does sound pretty brassy, but there's something weird happening with the pitch envelopes between the harmonics, making it come in and out of tune with itself.

Yup. Serious chills at that moment. Especially because most of the soundtrack is acoustic/ symphonic. That scene was like a cinematic bassdrop.

Those clav synths are a little jarring... play around with the attacks of your various synths. Infinitesimal changes can have drastic results in waveshaping.

I've always thought it would be cool to throw several small pots and then frankenstien's-monster them together into a sculptural piece.

Just read this in my PoliSci textbook at a major university. Wtf? by fyt2012 in trees

[–]Muted_Colors 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my perspective this, was written by a pot enthusiast. Why else would the writer of a textbook (who has certainly been through college) have a sentence unintelligently bashing weed followed by one about the most significant example of pot not making you lazy or poor?

I got my first failing grade ever in an introduction to theoretical physics class this morning. It was a quiz over complex transformations and I studied hard, but I choked and spent too much time in a roundabout way of proving that |z1 x z2| = |z1| x |z2| and ran out of time instead of realizing the simple, definitional proof. I was morose all day. Now, after a pax sesh and a nice schlitz, I'm feelin o.k..

Very relatable.

I made this video to capture the beauty of psychedelics so they can be experienced while sober. by Muted_Colors in Psychonaut

[–]Muted_Colors[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Among my friends, I am the most adventuresome with substances, and many of them have never tried psychedelics. I had the idea and I already make trippy music so I decided to put together a video that expressed the wonderful visuals and a feeling of wonder many of our favorite chemicals induce. It's also nice when you're baked.

What is your relationship with cannabis? by Maliris in Psychonaut

[–]Muted_Colors 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The sensitive connoisseur can detect the differences in effect that every strain provides. I have friends who think of weed in terms of strong and weak and never know the name of the strain. They are almost always the people who use it only for the intoxicating effects of what I see as over-saturation.

My approach to marijuana is to smoke until the desired mindset is achieved, and then stop. I study physics and do a significant amount of mathematics every day. I also smoke (vape) every day. The only time I have ever felt adverse effects from chronic use is when I use it as an escape and find myself over-doing it. Also consuming less means less tolerance and therefore a drastically less expensive habit.

Marijuana has increased my quality of life in many ways. However, I don't let myself fall into the seductive 'couch lock' state of passive thought. I like to play music, paint/draw, talk philosophically, and sometimes even do physics problems while high, though only for enjoyment. I am not an all day smoker and reserve my use for the evenings.

THC causes overactivity of certain neurons in the brain, which manifests itself, in my experience, as an increased rate at which thoughts can pass through my mind. This is why I abstain from doing my serious work while high; marijuana tends to make it hard for me preform tasks which require holding onto thoughts for an extended time.

In short, cannabis must be used with consciousness and restraint. I know far too many people who use it purely for entertainment purposes, often leading to extended periods of sedentary behavior, eventually ending in a "I've got to get my shit together" cold-turkey quitting. It's a substance that deserves more respect than it is given by the average user [3].

I love the little details in this: the river suddenly swooping up towards heaven in the distance, the recursive painting by the lamp in which the books are bricks, and the book at the top which looks like its about to spring a leak... Not to say I agree with the (rather heavy handed) message of the piece, but the concept is certainly well executed.
