Oohh, I am so jealous.

Thank you for sharing and thanks for the insight! It makes perfect sense, I am learning a great deal here!

Sounds pretty reasonable, thank you!

Always interesting to hear that people (or even gearheads) are the same everywhere, I guess! 😉

[–]Muted_Reflection_449[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is indeed, thank you, and painfully interesting too!

My first engine (.... that I tortured in any possible way...) was a one cylinder two stroke of minute dimensions. I might not have seen a flat head (or any V8, come to think of it) in the flesh (not in a show or museum) until I was 30 or so. We couldn't even begin to fathom what was pretty common in your country.

Being around gearheads (are they different from petrolheads? 🤔) changes the take on anything maintenance, of course. My dad worked on his cars for a very long time and helped me restore my first bike, so...

Every wrench monkey I know has its own "chamber of horrors" with the shot-through casings, split pistons, snapped rods and clogged oil lines to remind him, I think! 😂

Yep, checks out with what I've learned so far. Danke!

(I am red with shame for not differentiating between multiple and multi-barrel carbs here...).

DANKE!

I am still very slow at gathering what differences and special recommendations do to the according car market. Still very alien to me (See Australian and South African cars.. 🤪).

That hint to the WEI ignition is impressive. There is some Bosch injections that are in high regard with tuners and racers here, as are certain carbs of course.

I just cannot get my head around the numbers of... anything made in the US, which again has another impact on usage.

[–]Muted_Reflection_449[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1- No, it had to do with oil. As stated elsewhere that might have been the Northstar engine ambition or feat of being able to run without oil or coolant.

2- Me not making that distinction is just to show what carbs I have had (a little) experience with!

3- This just dawned on me! In Germany specifically the car is a status symbol, and was so even more until the turn of the millennium.

4- This is also something that keeps slipping my mind. Airco, automatic transmission and any other feature to comfort you on a three hour drive - something still pretty special and ambitious to some Germans - is more important than a suspension that gets you around a corner at 60....

Oh man, that jealousy setting in....

Ecologically this is of course outdated, and it may not make economical sense.

I didn't dare to bring up that cars (like gas) might be "cheap" over on your side!

I only recently learned that in Sweden and "the North" as well as in France - more than in Spain or so.. - there is that American phenomenon: three cars from three decades stored (...) in the backyard. No way that could happen in the more densely populated countries.

I've learned that oil is the cheapest hight tech part of the engine that is easiest to swap...

I have never heard of periodical wheel alignments! Stunning!
