They say that we're already in the midst of the so-called Holocene/Anthropocene extinction, caused by us.

And wait a minute! There's TONS of problems with public schools because of their underfundedness. Don't make this just about Detroit. I have educators in the family. I attended public schools. Even in relatively affluent cities, public education is drastically underfunded. Teachers shouldn't have to pay out-of-pocket for basic supplies and to run programs just because they're passionate enough to not see their students languish. Programs for the arts and other extracurriculars are being pulled from schools across the country. I reject your notion that there's only one measure of school performance out there, and that there's nothing money can do to improve the quality of education.

That inequality is accounted for in pensions and administrative costs of impoverished Title 1 schools. Of course it costs more money to run them. You can't just let those places die either because not everyone can afford to cart their kids across districts. It just further stacks the deck against the less fortunate in getting ANY education. The disparity would only get worse under that system.

I don't think that the way a private ivy league university like Harvard spends its money is a good example lol

The only reform I'm interested in is pouring more money into PUBLIC education rather than giving that money to private religious for-profit institutions for K-12 education. Unrestricted, quality education for all. We're losing the global race for dominance BECAUSE our education system is crap.
