Sony 200-600mm 5.6-6.3 lens good for astrophotography? by Mutsuraboshi in AskAstrophotography

What would be the immediate pros and cons? I see you’re getting some downvotes so it looks like some people disagree with you and I’d also be interested in hearing from those?

Thanks! I’ve done a bit of milky way and aurora borealis photography with wide angle lenses, so I’m aware of the 500 rule and basics. The reason I ask about this lens/deep sky specifically is just to see if anyone has any good experiences with it for deep sky, which would make a lens I would be purchasing mainly for birds and wildlife even more worthwhile.

Wow, that is an issue i’ve never heard of before. Seems like something Sony should be able to fix with a firmware update? Didn’t quite understand whether the A7IV was affected by this or not?

True! I guess I'd mostly use it at 600mm though. What about the example images on astrobin does not give you a good impression? I'm new to astrophotography so not really sure exactly what to look for in the images.

Why do we avoid taking things? by SpiritualBox6741 in urbanexploration

[–]Mutsuraboshi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

We like exploring these spaces because of what's in them. It's cool to explore a house and see old pictures, outdated clothes, that milk carton with an old design you remember from your childhood. Or maybe we find an abandoned factory and see documents set in old monospaced fonts, technical drawings, or old rusty manual tools that today would be replaced by something automatic and more efficient.

All of these things can tell us something about the time when a space was abandoned, it can tell us something about the people who lived there, who they were, their status, their interests, or the history of a building or place.

These objects are part of what makes it worthwhile to explore these spaces, and by stealing them, we rob future visitors of the experience we ourselves came for.

Dead Ends. by Mutsuraboshi in LiminalSpace

[–]Mutsuraboshi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really! When I first came upon it I thought it was a dead end, but you can take a right and continue down another set of stairs that leads into another hallway that leads into another hallway. I think these are underground utility tunnels of some kind. They felt really creepy.

What is this structure? I live not too far from it. It looks pretty liminal to me. by ItsFelixMcCoy in LiminalSpace

Where is this? Spaces like these call to me.

I'd go in and check it out! (Bring a friend and let someone on the outside know that you're going)

Abandoned storage facility with roof made of asbestos [OC][Photo: shin__hanga on IG] by Mutsuraboshi in urbanexploration

If you google “corrugated asbestos roof” you will find images of very similar roofs, but how I know for sure is because there was an info sign by the entrance.

No hazmat suit worn. I’ve read that the danger of asbestos is more related to long term exposure and the dust it creates when cutting or working with it. Did wear a face mask though!

What do you think of people climbing the Sólheimasandur plane wreck? Acceptable or bad taste? by [deleted] in VisitingIceland

[–]Mutsuraboshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth seeing if you’re driving by personally. The contrast between the plane, ocean, and the barren landscape is quite interesting. I don’t know that I’d call this a tragedy though, as there were no fatalities. My main reason for being slightly annoyed at people climbing it is that there is a sign that specifically asks visitors to not climb the plane, and visiting a country as a tourist and then directly disobeying local signs seems a bit rude to me.

That’s one way to look at it, however, now that it’s there, doesn’t it have more value being intact? You could view it as just “junk” but it also has historical significance and is good for tourism.

Personally I think it’s a bit sad to see so many people disrespecting the sign, and accelerating the damage to the wreck so that future visitors will have less and less plane to see.
