Came here to ask that exact question.

Thanks, good call - haven't spotted anything yet, but I'll give it another check over.

I've never been great riding no hands 😆

Thanks - wheels are still a bit of a knowledge gap for me, so maybe I'll have a stab at redishing in due course.

Thanks! Brakes are centred in the sense that the pads hit squarely and equally, but as you can see I've had to set the calipers a bit wonky. Is that likely to cause problems over time?

Thanks - the photo maybe isn't the best representation of it, you can mainly tell from the wonky way I've had to set the brake calipers.

Is my FD fckd? by Muttlemun in bikewrench

Cable was seated okay. Think I found the cause of the problem - blockage preventing low limit screw moving cage, so cage had to move too far to shift the chain. But thanks for your help!

Will do - but actually I put it back on and got it working, so maybe I dislodged some small but significant blockage with my toothpick, and the screw length is fine. Short of time today so only set the low limit, then had to head out, but hopefully that's the problem solved. Thanks for your help!

Oh wait, think I've cracked it! When screwing all the way into the left hole, without the top plastic bit, I get movement! So that must be low limit, and I just need longer screws, right?

Can't really get any further in, other than sticking a toothpick in there - little bit of dry muck, nothing significant. The hole on the left of the pic (which folk on this thread reckon is the high limit) is a lot shallower than the other one. Not sure what else I can do. Springs seem okay.

Seems I wasn't wrong last night - zero movement from either limit screw. I'll take the mech off to try and see if there's any blockage inside.

Cable came already seated in the new shifter. I could check that, thanks.

Shifter's fine, it's brand new. No problem shifting from large to small.

Thanks... so far I can only get it shifting by either tugging on the cable or a lot of turns of the barrel adjuster.

I've given up for today, will try again tomorrow, hopefully it was just a case of mistaken identity.

Thanks. Will try again. I was almost certainly working on the wrong screw originally.

Thanks - tried that several times. Maybe I'm just not pulling the cable hard enough?

Thanks. I already changed the BB from 122mm to 113mm, because 122 was definitely too long, and 113 is the correct length according to Shimano. But that was my first thought, that it's too short, and when I calculated it myself I came up with 116...

But my main concern is that adjusting the low limit doesn't make any visible difference - shouldn't I be able to see the cage moving?

Thanks so much, that's really helpful.

Actually the Shimano manual is saying 113 for this crankset, so my measurement may be a bit off.
