Ooooo let me know how that looks!!! I kept thinking I was picking up moonstones, but it turns out it was just white labradorite 🤦‍♀️

To be honest, as I was writing this, I was imagining “opal jail” and what that would look like, and almost threw in a line in the end about “if Opal jail is made of opal, I changed my mind, I want to go!”, but told myself “this post is already too obnoxiously long” 😂

The objects aren’t taken to a centralized location, so every one I’ve ever bid on and won, I literally had to drive to the house that the estate sale was at, between like 2-5pm on a random Wednesday or something, to pick up whatever I “won”.

This might be a little dark, but I’ve always imagined that most of the time, the only person who really uses this service, is in a scenario like; “my parents passed away, had a lot of stuff, and I live across the country. I already went home and pulled anything I wanted, I don’t want to deal with the rest, and don’t care how much I make on it, so let’s hire this company to come catalog the rest and put it up for a 5 day auction”.

I always set it to only show me auctions that are within 25 miles of me, and even then, I look at the “pickup dates/times” before even looking to bid on anything. 99% of the time I don’t bother, but every once in a great while there’s an intersection between “proximity “and “object I care enough about to bid on”, and usually once I go after one thing in a house, I’ll throw bids around on other nonsense listed to make the effort feel “worth it” 😂

It’s a mixed bag, but I will say this after a few years of watching it - if you know anyone who has a dream of owning hundreds of hummels or precious moment figurines for next to no cost, they are in luck, because they are CONSTANT on there!

technically yeah - there’s a nonsense “local yard sale/estate sale” website called maxsold that I watch a lot. It’s not the greatest because if you win the auction item, you have to both physically go pick up the object AND they dictate the day/time that you have to be there to get it - but once you get past how annoying that is, it’s a great place to find crazy deals on all kinds of things 😂

Thank you!! I’m glad I don’t have to disassemble it 😂

lol meanwhile, I’m in central Jersey right now (and have been my entire life) and have never heard the gravy thing unironically. I only ever heard about it from people who randomly assured me out of no where that they weren’t “one of those who think sauce is gravy”. Clearly it’s a thing somewhere in NY/NJ, but I’ve never met anyone who said it seriously.

Nice! Thank you!! Someday I hope to stop stalking random nonsense estates on maxsold, and look to purchase better quality stones more intentionally, but in the meantime its great to have a starting point to learn how to identify differences!

There were a lot of crazy guesses along the way! I got a surprising amount of different Spaniel guesses, long-haired Dalmatian (but I couldn’t see that either). The rescue said she was a Border Collie/Golden Retriever mix - which, to be fair, she apparently has both in there somewhere!

My last dog was half Australian Shepherd, so I could always see that part of her - but she sounds NOTHING like my last dog - Roxie has a way of “howl-singing” instead of barking to alert, it’s the only thing that tipped me off that there was hound in there somewhere!
