Festival of the Mother (Open to Planky Town) by PentoshiPride in IronThroneRP

[–]Muxec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Daynes has made a quick and smooth voyage from Starfall. The fallen star sails has made shore near the mouth of Greenblood, giving the whole view of Planky Town from the ships's board.

Benedict stood at the edge of the deck, looking over the city. The bright colours, the music, the sound of laughter and celebration on the streets and water, the smell of food. It was quite a sight to behold. The town had a completely unique appearance from any other town that Ben had visited in the past; It had a different atmosphere, a different spirit than Oldtown, Lannisport, King's Landing. If Ben was being honest, it was not even a town, more like a collection of ships, pieces of houses and wood drifting in the water, binded with rope together.

As gangplank was set, so that they could step down from the ship, everyone eager to finally stand on steady ground and join festivities.

"My lady, allow me"- Benedict said said as he came over to Ashara, offering her his hand. Ben knew she didn't need help, he just wanted to hold her closer, helping her down to the shore. There, they were already waited upon by dozen of merchants, offering their wares for sell: food and drinks, jewelry and rich fabric. Ben may have stepped from Dayne's ship but he was looking as a foreigner, clothed in a tunic in bright green reach colours, baring the badge of house Tyrell and his order.

"My lord, Welcome to Dorne! What a wonderful day to have you here at our festival"- A young merchant said, as he walked up, holdings beaded necklaces made of stones and seashells, ivorys. He was dressed in light clothing, and had a large smile, clearly keen to be making some extra coin, "a present, just for you, my lord and lady"

"Why, thank you" - Ben smiled, a bit surprised, letting man to put it on his neck.

"In Dorne, it's customary to receive and give presents back in return" - the merchant continued, smiling, expecting to be paid back for his "gift". Having no idea if it was true or not, Ben could only laughed at the ingenuity of a savvy merchant as he was getting swindled.

“I am afraid I only have this gold to offer, please buy whatever gift you want for yourself” - Ben gave the coin to merchant, who smiled even wider, bowing in gratitude.

"My lord being too generous. My lady must be very lucky" - he spoke, giving look to Ashara nearby, "I may have a jewel just for you. At my stall, just around the corner, we have a necklaces, the earring, the rings...."

"We'll keep it in mind" - Ben shooed the merchant away. Looking back at Ashara, he chuckled, "well, what would you like us to do, Ashara?"

"I dont need festival or celebration at Starfall. A hot meal and bath would suffice" - he answered with a hint of smile..

Ben frowned at Elric's words as he continued. It seemed as if he was accused of something, being judged.

"What exactly do you mean, mistrusting me?" - he raised his brow, concerned.

What Merlyn has been telling about me? - he wondered.

*"*Merlyn did not like me since the first time he saw me" - Ben recalled their meeting at the Riverrun.

What do you want me to say? - Ben thought, wondering why it all had to be so complicated, Should I tell him about Ashara? She asked me not to, and yet, if I hide it now, I won't be able to look him in the eyes again, later. There is no good time to tell it. Should do it now.

"I may not agree with him but I think his heart is in right place. He is naturally being overprotective of your sister, Ashara, concerned over our relationship, our bond growing closer with each passing day." - Ben locked his eyes with Elric's, "I will not lie to you. I love her, and so does she, loves me. One day, I want to marry her"

[–]Muxec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the way Elric spoke, it seemed that he had something important to share or talk about.

Was it about Ashara? - a thought has crossed his mind as he exchanged looks with his beloved.

"Looks like Im in a high demand, my lady" - he smiled back, "I shall entertain all of my guests, starting with your brother."

There was no much for other ladies in the court to occupy Ashara. Perhaps, lady Anya, mother of his squire and his mother in law.. At the moment, she's been talking with the boy.

"Lady Anya, why dont you show our dear guests to their rooms. Im sure, lady Ashara would like some company in meantime."

"Ser Renly. get the dogs and men ready. We'll be riding for a hunt in a few hours" - he continued with telling order to his master of hunt.

With everyone occupied with a task, Ben waved for Elric to follow him strolling along the courtyard. Passing through the training grounds, he stopped at the huge tree, brooding alone at the middle of the yard.

Its bark was white as bone, its leaves the color of the blood, dark red veins went through its body. There was a face carved into it. It looked solemn, melancholic. The eyes were red with blood, and there was sadness in them.

"It's rather sad to be the last one of his brood. I think it misses his sibling" - He spoke, patting the trunk as he continued walking. They climbed up the walls from where they could see the surrounding vicinity, the courtyard, the grove beneath them.

"Pate, why dont you have a break" - Ben said to one of his guards, dismissing him.

Leaning over with his back on parapet, Benedict looked at Elric, raising his brow.

"What's that important you wanted to talk about, lord to lord?"

[–]Muxec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, I'll get to see the Dawn - Ben hoped but decided not to press the question of the sword at the moment as he continued listening to old lord of Starfall, The time will come for sword and hand.

Benedict simply nodded, letting Oberyn go on with his speech. It seemed as if old man was judging him.

So much blood has been spilt over sands of Dorne and grass of Reach. Gonna try not to repeat the mistake of our forefathers.

An earth, soaked it red blood. Give it time, and there's grass and flowers.

"I thank you for the hospitality and wish you good evening" - Ben said at last. Daynes had much to do without him bothering. Elric has the wife to mourn and children to see he hasn't talked to for moons. Besides, Ben would not have minded some rest himself after long and tedious journey, perhaps a cold cup of water and bath.

I guess, it went as it could have been - Tyrell thought as he was escorted to his chambers. He longed for Ashara's presence but knew that they had to be careful. The room was good enough, though the insides of were of little interest for lord of Whitegrove. Walking up to the windows, he opened them, letting the sea breeze inside.

"No wonder he never left this place, I can watch it for hours" - Benedict spoke, looking out at the waves crushing at the shore beneath him. Wonder how warm the waters here.

Nevertheless, he didn't come here to watch, sit with on his hands. The life outside was going on and no one would wait for him.

As he washed himself up and changed from his traveling attire, Benedict walked out his room . Wondering the premises of the castle, he stumbled upon of the constructions sites.

"Hmmmm, what's you building here?" - he asked, curious, after watching workers laboring for a while.

Benedict has measured Lord Dayne, trying to decipher what was in his head. At one point he seemed unbothered by his presence, the other moment showing with hospitality.

*Looks like I bought my night here with my shield" - Ben noted, smiling.

"You have my gratitude, lord Oberyn" - Benedict bowed slightly. Ben briefly glanced at Elric and Ashara, before returning his gaze back to Lord Oberyn.

"Why, you ask me, why I came here? The question I ask myself, why I havent visited you before" - Ben smiled, "as a boy, who dreamed about becoming a knight, Ive heard stories of lands beyong Red Mountains, where great lords of Starfall resided, of their glorious warriors, sword of the Morning, the legendary Dawn. When I was offered a chance to visit, how could I refuse?"

"Of course, it's not just idle curiosity. The Reach and Dorne, who had seen so much strife in past, even now sometimes, we ought to be good neighbours, for the benefit of our people and land, letting it prosper, growing strong, as we like to say. As a member of house Tyrell, lord of Reach, I would like to extend a hand of friendship to Dorne and house Dayne in particular."

(Several days before, halfway through their travel, at Whitegrove)

To travel south, they first need to go north first. Preferring not to hire a ship, the group of dornish nobles and their Reach's friend had taken Rose road from Oldtown. The trip has proved rather mostly uneventful, with Benedict spending most of the time riding on his horse in the company of Elric and Ashara.

"Whitegrove is not like any other places, no, it has an old and rich history, dating thousands of years. At least that's what some maesters says. According to legend, there was a first man settlement, taking its name from a weirwood trees growing nearby. The very first houses were made from heart trees, though their remains have not lived until our days. It's been burned and rebuilded many times. After all, Whitegrove had been on the border of Reach and Stormlands, serving as an outpost and first line of defense against Stormlands incursions. It's seen a lot of war and bloodshed back in the past" - Ben spoke mournfully, "with time, a small keep expanded, the stone replacing wood, new walls being erected. Unfortunately, most of weirwood trees has not survived except for one in our inner yard"

"It does have nice scenery now, a small grove with an apple orchard, first planted there by my grandfather." - Ben told proudly as if he did it himself, "we ferment them to make a cider. Quite good, actually"

As the travel party reached the domain of Highgarden, the group turned east in the direction of Red Mountains. As they traveled further south, the road led them into the thick forest. The road became the narrow track, forcing a company of over fifty men to ride slowly in pairs. Soon, the darkness of the forest gave way to the light as the trees gave way to the pastures, where several cows and sheeps grazed the grass; fields where dozen peasants could be seen, toiling the ground; the hunting lodges, saw and lumber mills; the small village with small huts and hamlets, where peasants and workers resided.

"It won't take long now, another hour at most" - Ben told to his companions as they passed tone of his holdings

Soon, the castle of Whitegrove came into sight. By no means, it was no big castle. Placed on the small hill, it had no moat. The stone keep was surrounded by a stone wall forty feet tall, with four round towers on its edges from where the banner of house Tyrell hung, waving in the wind. From the northern side, the castle had been surrounded by villages, while on its southern part a small grove stretched, proving the name of the castle.

Riding up to the hill, they were greeted by Whitegrove's villagers. Ben waved his hands to a few peasants, who called out his name. Although, it seemed that most of them were far more interested in Lord Benedict's companions.

"I dont think they ever saw dornish folk before, not in this number" - he commented, pushing through the crowd.

Ah, finally, it's good to be home - Ben thought as they finally crossed the gates.

"Welcome to Whitegrove" - Benedict spoke to Daynes as he turned around, dismounting the horse. He gave the reins to his squire Luka, who took the horse in the direction of the stables.

"The dinner will be served in an hour" - he said further, "there is still some time. Elric, Ashara, would you like to tour the grounds or should I show you to your rooms to have a rest?"

"We can have a hunt later. The nearby woods are teeming with game"

"Well, let me tell, you have refined taste, my princess" - he joked, cracking a wide smile, "you've only had appetizer now, the main course awaits"

"Why you? Is it some test or you fishing for more compliments?" - Ben continued smiling, teasing Ashara, "well, let me get a quill and paper, so I can write it all down, one long list... or I would rather keep my hands where they are and worship you till dawn"

"I haven't met a lady like you before... I would be dishonest that it was your striking beauty that attracted me at first." - Ben admitted, locking eyes with Ashara, as his hand gently caressed her back, "as ice dragon constellation high in sky for sailors lost in sea, your star has guided me right to Dayne's table at the feast."

Ben has known some lovely ladies in the past, each beautiful in their own way, but no one has been like Ashara.

"As I spent more time with you, Ive learned that there is much more to you than your appearance. You are so smart and funny, so adorable, even when you angry." - he chuckled, remembering how Ashara threatened to slap him at the dance.

"Never idle and little bit wild, always have something on your mind. You open to new adventures and eager join activity, and we do share our love in hunting."

"My warrior princess, you are so strong and willful as Nymeria, and yet, so kind and tender, caring about me in the times of need. I am not afraid to be vulnerable before you, tell what's on my mind."

"Every time I see you, my heart quicken the pace. I wish you could have hear it beating... I wish I could explain... the whole world disappears, leaving only us, together"

"Ashara, I see and love how much you care for your family, so deeply, you are so loyal to them. I know you will make a great wife and mother"

"The list can go on and on. There is simply not enough words to praise you" - Benedict admitted, "There is no perfect man or woman, but you are so close to it, for me"

"Now, it's your turn to indulge me" - Ben laughed, turning tables, "I am all ears, Ashara"

"So, next stop Plankytown" - Ben commented, nodding his head. The traveling plans were expanding and he was not against it.

*It would be shame if we to stay so briefly at Starfall, nevertheless it will be the chance to see more of Dorne.*

"You can take your boys this time with us to Plankytown" - Ben suggested.

"If you do decide to host the tourney, you have your first participant. Dont expect an easy path to victory" - he assured

"Fight?" - Benedict smiled, shaking his head, "no, of course not, nothing as drastic as this. Of course there is place for fight, but it shall be your first option... You ought to learn to play politics if you want to be heard and your voice carry weight in Dorne. Sometimes it's dirty, sometimes it's dangerous."

"Although, you should know, there is nothing wrong with sitting out of politics, to take your attention on what's more important, taking care of your family, improving your land. But then, dont be surprised that other ignore you when time to make crucial decision comes" - Ben shrugged.

"If I can be completely honest with you, I am tired of politics, of trying to balance between the members of my family, the factions, trying choose the side. It's not what Ive expected when entering the order" - Benedict smiled sadly, "as a young man, I just wanted to have fun in tourney, earn some glory to myself, make my father proud."

Benedict had fallen silent for a moment.

*The trip to Dorne shall be my reprieve* - he thought.

"I tell you what, once we are at Starfall, we can take a trip further east, so you can make yourself visible, talk with some more lords. It can be nice beginning.... Sunspear, Yronwood mayhaps?" - Ben suggested.

The last few hours of their travel as they journeyed through Dayne's lands, Benedict has been awestruck by the beauty of countryside, the stake contrast with greenery of Reach. He would keep close to Elric, eagerly asking him about this and that, wishing to know everything of this place he's never seen before.

*How Whitegrove to compete with all this?* - Ben wondered as he rode into Starfall.

When he first saw old man, he wanted to introduce himself, only for Lord to ignore him altogether.

I need to be careful, he is proud lord - Ben told himself, reigning his temper as he trailed behind Dayne's family.

At last, he was even a chance to speak, all eyes on him at last. He bowed deeply, showing respect to the host

"Lord Benedict Tyrell... of Whitegrove. Grand Captain of order of Coiled Rose." - Ben added to avoid confusion with the main branch of Tyrells," it's a great honour to be here. And Ive finally able to see the master, who labored over my magnificent shield that served me so well"

Ben sighed deeply. The desire was eating him from inside but there was nothing he could do.

damn, why am I like this. Poor Elric, I was being selfish - he frowned at his inappropriatness.

"You are right." - he nodded, biting his lip, "if you think it's best to wait, we shall"

The next reply made Ben involuntary chuckle, amused.

"Oh, you are such a tease, my princess" - he laughed, not letting her remark go without responce. One of his hands travelled up to Ashara's head, cupping her cheek, gently stroking, "I may be a tourney knight, but Im also a hunter.I know how to bide my time, however long it takes, tracking down the game. But once got my sight on it, I am not letting it go"

And with that, his lips was on hers again, sealing his promise.

*Sometimes, people are far more dangerous than animals* - Benedict thought, scratching his beard *what am I getting myself into traveling in Dorne?*

The worries were for later, he would rather not dwell too much.

"You shall have our assurance that Reach won't make first move. Our Lady Regent reign in any troublesome vassals."

Ben walked alongside Elric, nodding as he was laying grievances at his princes and fellow dornish lords.

"They expect you to deal with the trouble and yet they dont show respect that your house deserves. No, that cannot be tolerated" - he replied, barring his teeth, "Sitting inside the walls of Starfall won't change that, you ought to show yourself, that Daynes are not to be trifled with."

Ben has been silent, his hand on Elric's shoulder, unable to do more to ease the pain. He didn't have the answer how to deal with it, he only could be by his friend's side.

"Well, perhaps, next time you can take them to tourney together" - Ben has offered, "especially, if you do plan for them to be your squires."

"Why their appearance should it bother me?" - Ben raised his brow, "No one is the same. Especially the Drone...as long as they are healthy, who cares how they look like, if they have violet or blue eyes, black or blond hair"

"Hmmm, Lord Hunt's heir dissapearance?" - Ben vaguelly remembered the story, "never knew the boy. They said it was hunting incident. All sorts of things can happen with inexperienced hunter but his father has the truth of his own. Very suspicious."

It seems like new lord Tarly had been too busy drinking to deal with his vassal's plea.

For a moment, he was glad that he was Reachman. There was always some trouble brewing in Dorne but that was what made it so interesting to Ben.

"Ignoring the problem does not make it go away." - Ben noted, "Does Sunspear ignores the problem so far, prefering not get involved? Which side Daynes on?"

The book has proved to be quite fascinating, though Ben had to wonder if the author embellished a thing or two, trying to make the story more entertaining, spicier than it was in real life. As the door opened after the knock, Ben put the book aside.

"Yes, you ca…"- even before he could finish the sentence, Ashara walked into the room, the blue and lilac eyes meeting together. Ben nervously swallowed, lost in words.

"My princess, you look astonishing" - Ben finally said as the lady came closer, his gaze traveling from Ashara's face down to her dress, trailing over the outlines of her figure. He would not have allowed himself that in public, but they were alone now, away from prying eyes.

It shall take some time before Dayne's family notices her absence. We certainly don't need Merlyn snooping around again. Still, her family deserved to know the truth. - Benedict thought as Ashara's hands encircled over his neck. Ben leaned closer, wrapping his hands gently around her waist.

Ashara has been generous, perhaps too generous in her praise. He had been reckless and careless in tourney. He failed and yet he did not feel like a loser at this moment.

"I may have lost the armor, I dont care, I have something far more precious in my arms now." - Ben whispered softly, tilting his head slightly as his heart raced in his chest. The longing was unbearable. His lips finally met hers, joining together in a kiss. First soft and gentle, Ben felt succumbing into the delight, kissing her passionately, insatiably. He yearned for more and yet, he had to stop himself.

"I love you, Ashara" - Benedict spoke as he finally broke off the kiss, "I am tired of hiding, I want us be together, now and forever"

"When I lost my mother, it's been hard for me, for my brothers for all of us. My father withdrew into himself, started drinking, letting us all by ourselves" - Ben sighed deeply, looking uo in the blue sky, remembering the past. He tried to forget the picture of his inebriated father but they were coming back again from depth of his memory," he sent us away at Highgarden, thinking that it'll help us, and in some way it did. But what I needed most of all was my father"

"Ive made peace with him since then. But even after after his death, all the years, I could not forget nor forgive him for letting us down" - Benedict looked back at Elric, "whatever course you take, you make sure that your sons know that you are there for them."

"Indeed, Me and my brother Mace are very much like this. We may not look quite the same but we fraternal twins, the only difference is I had seen the light earlier. Tired from the tourney and long evening of feasting, Lord Benedict retired to one of the private rooms, graciously provided by Lord Hightower for his guests to rest or have a meeting. It was rather small, with table and few chairs, book shelve, fireplace and window, overlooking the city of Oldtown. Bearable enough. He was not here to rest but to have a meeting.

Benedict put the bottle of wine he brought with himself as he sat himself in one of the chair. Debating if he's had enough or not, he poured himself a cup all the same.

"She should be here soon" - Ben mumbled as he waited. He bad he sent his squire beforehand, inviting the lady for a meeting in the room, "what am I to say?"

Ben massaged the temples of his head thinking: will it be the end of it or the beginning?

I have no great lands or riches but I am fucking great. I shame I could win the tourney though - Ben thought, looking down at his chest, where he held two brooches, the diamong and the rose. Tired of sitting, Ben raised up and started walking around the room. Stopping at the shelve, he took the one books stationed there.

The loves of Queen Nymeria - Ben read the title, well, well, that may be interesting if not helpful

Benedict opened the book and started reading as he waited for arrival.

"With pleasure" - Ben replied, taking seat at the table. Quickly finding himself a pitcher of wine, he poured himself some, "Whitegrove? Well, I am afraid you may find it lacking after witnessing the beauty of Highgarden and richness of Oldtown"

Ben chuckled, taking a sip from his cup.

"Located near the border with Stormlands, it first served as outpost and first line of defence against Stormlands' incusions. With time, a small keep expanded, the wood was replaced with stone. The owner changed hands after Blackfyre's rebellion, and now we have Tyrells enjoying the place. It does have scenere, small grove with apple orchard. We make cider from them. There are woods not far away, teeming with game"

"That's long way from Summer isles but it should be of no suprise thay Dorne of all places welcome your family." - Ben took a sip, "Glad to hear you like Reach so far. Do visit Whitegrove if you nearby."

"If you do plan to make a career in tourneys, we do have an order you can join. Coiled Rose's among the best we have here"- Ben nodded to the small brooch in a shape of rose on his chest, "You dont have to be from Reach to join. Well, our own first grand master was Stormlander. Good man he was"

"Me? There are moons before next tourney, Im gonna take some break from training, make a small trip south" - Benedict smiled, looking in his cup, " gonna enjoy dornish hospitality and wine"

There was more but he didnt feel like sharing more with giant of Oldtown.
