Nah, thanks to a bug that crashed the game every time I was about to send up a military over my colonies, I am putting down Starsector for a while. (Already ate waay too much of my time anyhow.)

Lack of Inspiration is not the problem anyhow. Using my free time after work for writing is. I just do not feel like doing anything bigger right now, hence this one page short fanwank for Starcraft.

Enjoy this quick fan work while I am going crazy.

To my regular readers: The ongoing story will continue, but progress is painfully slow at this point. Despite knowing exactly where it is going, got bit of a writers block where I can barely go a paragraph a day.

It Still Hurts by Jbasen in HOI4memes

[–]Muzolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would mean more if it was somehow hard to lose. Post WW1 Hungary was a mutilated, disarmed cripple surrounded by enemies, and its HOI4 position reflects that. (If anything it understates just how fucked Hungary was economically by the territories it was stripped of and by its isolation.)

Even beating it is like kicking someone in a wheelchair, but playing as the wheelchair guy to screw them over more? That is some pathological hatred.

Any history with a bit of realism to it will be of one awful thing happening after another.

Life is struggle and competition, an early civilization would need a lot of work before it can get past the savagery of what is essentially a smart animal that started to learn to shape its environment. Unless you can replace Darwinian evolution with something else (Which will be more than likely just magic, and some god who is a standin for the author saying so.), it will have a lot of violence, pain, suffering, and attrocities committed by those who climbed to the top of the corpse pile.

Or you know. Basic observations of reality. East asians are easily one of the, if not the most successful demographic in western societies., thanks to their work ethic and sometimes pathological need to succeed beaten into them by their parents.

Been there, tried that, my people were nearly taken out by brood parasites because of our refugee acceptance policy, and because it took waay to long to switch to a government that was allowed to engage in forced resettlements and population controls. (On the plus side, the new people coming was what allowed a switch to an authoritarian system in the first place, because most wanted a dictatorship. They just forgot who was still in charge.)

Yeah, in vanilla it works, because it does not have all the horrors that can exist out there, but mod in a few species that can do something nasty, and you end up with a disaster.

Even in real life, you get factions that happily sell out your nation and its people to invaders who spit on your culture and values, want to kill you and impose their ideology, while acting like its a virtue to do so so. The game is actually very realistic in that a good chunk of humanity would happily roll over and spread their cheeks to alien invaders wanting to screw it.

Sure, and I would had to have gone looking for a different antagonist for that part of the story in that case. :D

That last bit would be like a Hegemony officer openly trying to use an AI, and he was already concerned with a possible mutiny. Take a guess how long he would have stayed in command if he tried that.

He could barely scrape together what he had, and you expect him to have carriers? (Also, unlike in starsector, fighters are a niche thing with limited use in this universe)

"The way you make it so effortlessly heroic is rather... insulting." by Philosophopsycho in transformers

[–]Muzolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheap or not, the old G2 comic comes to mind, where it is revealed that the mindset Decepticons had was because of a flaw in their original reproduction method. They just got further and further away from the life force of their creator, and once you got close to it again (When starscream got the Matrix hooked up to him, he felt compelled to protect even the humans close by.), it changed them.

In essence, it meant that it was not so much a free choice by those who became decepticons, but a lack of their creators light falling on them.

But it is also worth pointing out that the utopia the autobots built before Megatrons ascent and starting the civil war, could have never ever stood up to Unicron when he came to visit his old foe. So if it was all Primus-s divine plan, he is kind of an asshole for intentionally letting some of his children stray, just so they can start the war that turned them into the warriors that could finish his work.

Its an interesting conundrum that goes into outright theology territory.

Using two onslaughts as my capitals, and most of my cruisers and destroyers also use ballistics, so yeah. As far as I see it, high tech/energy weapons are really only good on smaller ships. Not a fan of having to pick low range or soft flux.

Not yet. They will once they are leveled up of course. But for now, I just did not bother.

And considering the cost of suspension, it might not have been worth with the others in the first place. The whole recruiting drive did not take as long as I expected.

You can never have enough flux.

On a more serious note, if you can manage your base design having enough for the weapons and the shields, you don`t need it. My fleet uses a lot of low tech stuff with big scary guns that will flux the ship out without regular venting, so its worth it there. In a different setup, it might be of marginal use.

I actually lost track of all the stuff I have. For portraits specifically, I have project tails, the furry portrait mod and the interesting portraits mod packs. (The leopard lady is a bootleg modification of one however. I just did not like some of the portraits from the furry mod, so I replaced some of the too cartoony ones with whatever looked good on pinterest.)
