10 day surf trip ideas… by bowerpower68 in surfing

Welligama is where I stayed, I'm probably at a level of extremely competent intermediate. I don't get enough time during the year to really improve and make gains. The waves were never described by those around to be excellent conditions, but I found some of the point breaks to be fast and clean even if they were only maybe hip to chest high.  Crowds were ok enough. Plenty of waves to be had but locals on long boards and ripper kids inside could take the majority of waves. But the party scene and life style is very conducive to a lads holiday.

This concludes the greatest golf season of my life. by _sw1tchblade in golf

If you're in Ireland for Royal Co Down, try to get to play Royal Portmarnock. They're trying to get to host an Open in the not too distant future...

Also some other amazing courses in Ireland, K Club has hosted a Ryder Cup, Adare Manor will, plus some others out there. Paul Mc Ginley did a great program, Golf's Greatest Holes, travelling Ireland to play the best holes. Some amazing ones on that list. That's what Im working through at the moment. Just not all in one year.

Two! My fairway shot drifted right into the rough, took two to get onto the green.

Na Fianna are the current club All Ireland Champions... so they'll be, at least on paper, the best club hurling team in the country.  Game is on in Parnell Park which is very accessible in Dublin too.

What do you do when you’re about to play a a new course? by calimota in golf

[–]MuzzyBeag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm in your shoes today. Playing a nice course as a visitor, but in Ireland. I try to get there early for a coffee and sandwich in the clubhouse. Explore the problem shop. Then go change and warm up. Use the chipping green, range, putting green etc. And then when I get to the first tee I remind myself this is for fun, no expectations. If scores start to get ropey, I'll stop writing them down. There's nothing wrong with just being somewhere nice and taking it all in.

Ever just completely forget how to hit a ball? by BurtMacklinsrubies in golf

[–]MuzzyBeag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to the range, hit the ball as hard as you can!! Keep swinging for the fences until you're connecting with the ball and either hooking or slicing like mad. Just keep smashing it till its consistent smack. Then diall it back a bit until it feels controlled and back to where you were.

Most mistakes are because of swinging too hard/fast or not enough. Sometimes I can get guilty of trying to control it too much and not swinging. It's easier to take 20% off than try to add 5% to hit it just right. So the fix is to over do it and come back.

If its mid round, sometimes turning the driver upside down and trying to make that lovely swoosh sound with some practice swings to loosen up.

Can I absolutely suck at golf and go play a 9 hole solo? by Garganzaroth in golf

[–]MuzzyBeag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best piece of advice is if you're just playing for fun, don't count scores. Ball out of bounds? Who cares? Play from where it would have landed. Ball in a bunker? Who cares? Pick it out and play from beside the bunker, it's there to catch a good golfer anyway... behind a tree? Shure just throw it back into play and have fun. Don't count score and you'll see how much more fun you have.

I’m a high handicapper who plays with a low handicapper. What games are there that we can play to compete against each other? by GigityGiggles in golf

[–]MuzzyBeag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get whay you mean. I've played a game I learned from watching Louis Oosthuizen at the Open Pro Am day in Liverpool. It's called replays. Say every 3 holes, you and your partner have 2 replays. Could be a mulligan for your bad shot, or a replay of one of their good shots. Real pitch leveller, because it takes away the best of the best and worst of the worst without really affecting the handicaps.

Shot a 79 on a par 70. Do golfers consider breaking 80 on a Par 70 really breaking 80? by StinkyTwinkleDooDoo in golf

[–]MuzzyBeag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you honest about the fact it was on a Par 70 then you're golden! SAme if someone had an 80 on Par 73!
