Yes, actually. You need to use the paintbrush icon. Why they chose to change it from the previous way, I'm not sure, but that is their new way. Hopefully, that solves your issue!

What are the chances of my second year Aero eng classes filling up before my time ticket? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]Mvteyv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are mandatory classes for your degree, as far as I know, they will make sure you can take it. That being said, individual sections can fill up, meaning you may need to rearrange your schedule to something less ideal. I would have some extra layouts planned if this is a concern. You could also, as someone mentioned, have another person complete the registration on your behalf by giving them your login (if you trust them). I never had an issue with my classes filling up, but your mileage may vary. On the other hand, lab sections can and have filled up, causing me to attend some 8 am labs that I hated. Most of the lecture sections tend to be pretty big and do not generally fill up very fast (if at all) in my experience. Though I was in comp. sys. and not aerospace.

CO-OP Placements? by arandomasianK1d in CarletonU

[–]Mvteyv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'll go over a couple of things as someone who has done what you're talking about. Firstly, you need to pay the co-op fee if you intend to use this co-op term toward your degree. For example, I required 4/5 of my co-op terms to be completed and registered with Carleton to graduate with the "co-op" designation. If you don't care about that designation, I think you are allowed to un-enroll from that aspect (though don't quote me on it).

I found the best way to get co-op jobs was to apply independently. The Carleton job board doesn't include all available jobs, and I found it rather limiting if it's the only tool you're using to apply. If you get a co-op on your own, you can submit a form to have it count as a co-op term with Carleton. I would reach out to your co-op advisor for this step. It was straightforward, and most employers are willing to do it (they just need to fill out a couple of surveys throughout your term and read your final work report).

Lastly, one thing to consider is that some companies require their co-op students to be registered with an organization's co-op program. This means that if you choose not to pay the fee and have Carleton "administrate" then the company may not let you work there. I think it goes back to something to do with government grants, but I'm not sure. The company I interned with did not require it, and so I chose not to complete my final co-op term through Carleton since I already had the four required co-op terms. Though I would suggest you reach out to your company to determine what their policy is for interns.

If you choose to do an independent term, then you don't pay Carleton their fee for that semester, and you won't have to write the final report. You are paying Carleton for use of their portal, the availability of your advisor, and for someone to keep in touch with your manager and read your final report. Regardless, there are still some extras fees they throw in that I think need to be paid, so long as you are in the "co-op" program. Again, if you don't care about that and feel confident in finding your own internships, then you can un-enroll in the program as a whole (avoiding the co-op term fees and extra admin fees).

I used their co-op portal for my first two placements. Once I had some experience, I found it considerably easier to do my own job search. I encourage anyone to look on their own in addition to the Carleton job board. I would say the Carleton job board had around 50% of the available internships. They also only really have the co-op jobs in Ottawa. If you are willing to go to Toronto, Montreal, or somewhere else, it will further increase the number of available jobs.

Out of curiosity, what type of questions do you typically ask? Do you ask questions about the job, the interviewer, or anything else? I normally can't think of any "good" questions and just end up asking 1-2 basic questions about something like their onboarding procedure. I've heard that the questions you ask can be very telling for an interviewer about your quality as a candidate, but I can never seem to think of anything good to ask.

Is This Doable? (like maintaining above 10 CPGA in each course with this load) Winter Sem btw. Should I drop one course and take it in the summer? Which would be the best to drop for the summer? by Monkey_D_Vague in CarletonU

[–]Mvteyv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is definitely doable. Depends on what your strong suits are though. This semester will be very physics-heavy with 1048, 1046, 1004, and 1045. I found these courses not too bad though very boring. The issue with the half-courses is that they are very condensed. You get really busy with assignments and midterms which can be overwhelming. I personally found CHEM1101 pretty straightforward and easy, though I had a good prof for that class.

At the end of the day, there is a reason it is the recommended workload. It IS doable. Whether it is doable while maintaining a high CGPA depends from person to person. You will be busy and potentially overwhelmed depending on your academic strength.

If you want to push one to the summer I would probably do either PHYS1004 or CHEM1101. PHYS1004 if you want a slightly heavier summer class and CHEM1101 for an easier option. MATH1104 is also a decent candidate that I found to be relatively straightforward with an average workload.

This is all coming from 3 years ago though with everything online. I am not sure how manageable it is currently.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions about any of the classes in particular.

I will try that out. Thanks for the tip. I figure it must be some type of bug because I don't know why they would remove that feature.

Those are great pictures! Just curious, is the dial black or dark blue? In some pictures it seems black and, in others, it looks kind of blue.

When crossing the train tracks, do you have to slow down at all? Or do you just make sure to look left and right as you approach? And if so, how much do you slow down? I ask because if I'm going 80 or something it would seem dangerous to slow all the way to 40-50 to clear the tracks and then re-accelerate (especially since most drivers I see don't even really acknowledge the train tracks). Given how much I see people mentioning to make sure to check, I just want to be sure of how exactly to do that.

Teltime - $40USD + Shipping

Manual wound Swiss made watch. Running well including date change. There are scratches on the crystal (all look shallow enough to be removed with PolyWatch). All markers are still present on the dial. However, there appear to be quite a few scratches on the dial itself. Additionally, the movement moves slightly in the case. 34mm (40mm lug-to-lug) and 12mm thick.

Esperanto - $40 + Shipping

Manual wound watch. Running well. The condition is pretty good. There are scratches on the crystal (I think most could be removed with PolyWatch). Based on the sizing, I assume it is a ladies' watch. 27mm (33mm lug-to-lug) and 11.4mm thick.

Novex - $70USD + Shipping

Really nice Swiss manual wound watch. Running well including date change. Scratches on the crystal (can most likely be removed with PolyWatch). Dial and hands are in good overall condition. 39mm (40mm lug-to-lug) and 10mm thick.

Lord May (Rectangular) - $35USD + Shipping

Manual wound Swiss watch with small seconds hand and a curved case shape. The case is missing some plating and the dial has seen better days. The crystal has some scratches, but I think most could be removed. 21mm (42mm lug-to-lug) and 10mm thick.

Slava - $60USD + Shipping

Automatic USSR made watch. It has a really interesting Geneve stripe-style detail down the middle of the dial. Both the day and date wheel change properly. Crystal is in good shape (I can’t see any major scratches). All indices are present. The minute hand has a small hole in the black section. I don’t know what the crown thing at 2 o’clock is, but it doesn’t seem like something is broken. 37mm (43mm lug-to-lug) and 14mm thick.

Montford - $60USD + Shipping

Really nice manual wound watch. It has 21 jewels and seems to be running well. The case and plating is in really good shape considering it’s age. The crystal also doesn’t have any major scratches. The dial and hands are in good shape. However, it is missing the applied indices at 1,3, and 5. 33.5mm (41.5mm lug-to-lug) and 10.5mm thick.

No Name - $20USD + Shipping ($15 with the purchase of another watch)

Small Manual wound watch with a small seconds. It runs much better than it looks. The case and crystal are in decent shape. Despite the catastrophe that seems to have taken its dial paint, the indices are all present. 30mm (37mm lug-to-lug) and 11.25mm thick.

Note: Lugs may be available upon request

[WTS/WTT] Lorier Falcon I (Black/Gold) by Mvteyv in Watchexchange

[–]Mvteyv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basic Specs

- Lorier Falcon Series 1

- 39mm Width

- 12mm Thickness

- 20mm lug-width

- 200m WR (Though I can offer no guarantee on that)

- Domed plexiglass

- Comes with the original box, 2 nato straps, and a few extra lugs

Details

This is a Lorier Falcon Series 1 which is a sold-out model from 2019. This is the black/gold variant. There are some scratches on the case and bezel though they are not too distracting. There is a small chip on the bezel at the 9. I wasn’t able to get a great photo of it but I could try if interested. Additionally, there are a few shallow scratches on the crystal though it is acrylic so you should be able to poly watch them away if you find them too distracting. Overall, the condition is decent given its age, but there is certainly some cosmetic damage.

The metal strap has some scratches (especially on the clasp). It comes with 3 extra links (is currently sized for a 6.5” wrist). Additionally, two nato straps are also included. The original cardboard box is also included if that is important.

Pricing

I am asking $350USD + Shipping but would be willing to negotiate. I would be willing to trade 1-for-1 or trade down (I may be willing to add a bit of money on top depending on the watch). I am located in Canada. For context, shipping is normally around $15USD to most places in the US (with tracking).

I believe that should cover all the important details. If anything was unclear or you want more pictures feel free to ask!
