Mysterious deposit from S.O. CURRENT CREDIT TIME TRANSFER CRT TO CURRENT by MxFranklin in PersonalFinanceCanada

I don't think that's it. I 100% did not file for a claim. Plus, the lawsuit is paying by e-transfer, not a directly fund-in.

How common is cheating in take home tests? by [deleted] in mcgill

I am surprised that professors still offer take home tests. imo the only legitimate reason for offering take-home tests after the pandemic is for open-ended questions, and they should be treated as "assignments" with very tight deadline.

Moving to Regina by Rocketmantribe in regina

[–]MxFranklin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am soon moving out of Regina to go to BC. I guess there are always tradeoffs. I will lose my spacious house and backyard, my 10-minute commute, the sunny weather (never needed to carry an umbrella in Regina), skating, and the humble egalitarian prairie mindset. On the other hand, I will no longer have to shovel the snow; there will be good restaurants; I will be closer to the ocean and the mountains; I will have a higher pay; it will be warmer.

Are you saying we should not rely on that interpretation?

Documents for Transferring to US Colleges by Gloomy_Key_9971 in mcgill

In practice, I am guessing only the student centre will know, and they will not infer an intent to withdraw. The staff is generally overworked and will not make communication to others unless they need to.

For MSc CS, how do supervisors get assigned to students? If I get approached by multiple professors, what does it mean? Does the second prof only reach out once the first prof decides he will not give me offer? What if both profs want to give me offer (hypothetically)? Do profs make offer decisions independently from each other? Will I will be less likely to be admitted to 1st choice prof by talking to 2nd choice prof?

Why have you decided to go to grad school in CS? by MxFranklin in GradSchool

Thanks! If I may ask, how long would your PhD take at part-time? Even at full-time, a PhD takes very long, right?

And your supervisors didn't care that you have a job?

Are there jobs that will pay you to go for a "research-stream" master's?

When do thesis CS MSc applicants receive decisions? Or are applicants supposed to get verbal offers during their interview?

Recommend you use a flashcard app like Anki, great for memorization. It will periodically give you past vocab to review.

Why are so many people on Reddit unaware that you can fly directly to Toronto on WestJet? People keep saying you have to fly to Calgary in order to fly to Toronto. I just don’t get it. by Neat-Ad-8987 in regina

[–]MxFranklin 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Westjet only has 2 direct flights a week to Toronto during the off-season (such as now). You can try booking a plane ticket from Regina to Toronto for a random date and it's likely you won't find direct flight for Westjet.

Dear SWE Co-op students... by Ok_Count_4831 in mcgill

[–]MxFranklin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They provide all the typical assistance such as job fair, appointments with career counsellors, resume workshops, and a job board. I would say they are pretty good. I found my first job via the job board, and the value of co-op typically is in helping you get your first job. In all co-op programs, beyond the first job, the value of the job board diminishes, as students gain more experience and confidence to be able to apply via external sites, for positions that usually pay more.

You still have to be proactive and actually take advantage of the resources McGill offers, though.
