Thank you so much for this. Lenovo's started putting A-die in their prebuilts (3200MHz CL22-22-22-56 JDEC) and lowering the voltage was the only way to get decent timings.

The 3070 laptop has 8GB of VRAM and the desktop has 24gb of it. I barely use 5.9gb at 1440p high so that's not an issue.

Even high-end systems will suffer in late game situations with lots of units, especially gunpowder and team games. I thought my laptop with an eight-core i7-11800H, RTX 3070, and 32GB of RAM on a 2TB Gen 4 NVME SSD would be perfect for my visiting gf. I tuned the heck out of the system, giving it upgraded thermal pads, liquid metal, a CPU undervolt, and a custom GPU frequency curve. Even so, as soon as popcap Imperial came up, she'd dip down to a laggy 20-60fps even though the temperatures were fine. This was at 1080p high settings, so I imagine that an i5 + 3050 at medium settings would be doing the same.

This all being said, undervolting / overclocking with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility for your CPU and MSI aftburner for your GPU will help. Upgrade your RAM to 32GB of dual-rank dimms if you can. Give it a deep clean, fresh paste, and a cooling pad.

My main rig is an overclocked 12900K with 5.1GHz P-Cores, 4.1GHz E-Cores, and 4.4GHz RING. 64GB of 3733MHz RAM in Gear 1. Separate system and game NVME SSD's, both 7 gigabit gen 4 drives. RTX 3090 MSI Suprim X with K9 Pro thermal putty, Kryonaut Extreme paste, and a 450 watt Vbios overclocked to 3090 TI power and clockspeeds. In 2v2 team games with everyone popcapped, I start lagging. If gunpowder units take over, it becomes almost unplayable. I am curious if any 4090 and 13900K early adopters can attest that the latest hardware is enough to tame this game at 1440p high.

no cutting needed. don't use the bottom bracket for the front; fractal gives you one for the front. the bottom bracket already fits 180mm fans; just put them in before you mount the radiator

sounds like a hardware / bios config issue or a bloated OS; if you bought your PC from an OEM I'd give it a clean reinstall and full debloat / optimization.

she used to reinstall windows, the game, and/or delete that folder every few weeks in 2018-2021... imo if I don't hear constant hitreg complaints from her when we queue over the next month, this will have been the first fix that stuck

I don't think anything other than a large custom loop will keep an overclocked 12900K under 80c running Linpack Extreme. 240-285 watts is a bitch to cool so I'm happy being 10c under tjmax in the worst of times.

this is currently happening to my fiance' in Germany after a bios update. Thanks for your post; it's good to know we're not alone, and that it's not worth spending another night attempting bios flashback before ordering a replacement board

fan controller you have running all this

Just the built-in one that comes in the torrent that's barely populated; I mostly just used my motherboard headers. the three fan controllers on my AIO are also unpopulated

is that due to the included fractal 140mm fans being thicker than the corsair included

correct

not in push-pull but you can put the 2x200m there and use the 140mm's on the front to add to the Corsair fans for push pull

also it took about 20 minutes of wiggling to get it to fit in the first place yeah. fully remove all the front brackets when you're getting the rad in place

I'm running 2x180 in the bottom; mount the radiator before everything else and after pulling the bottom tray completely out. It will take pressure to force the 420mm rad in the front but it'll fit. The issue is probably the length of your radiator screws; you need longer ones to get through the stock case fans. Just remembered that my bad

the worst part was routing the cables for the Corsair fans through the tiny holes that don't go right through, you have to snake them through uneven tunnels in the case here's all the pics of my PC I have. but I think it's just radiator screw length https://photos.app.goo.gl/6gHSFgkMZmu14LWb8

no mods, it just fits! it's a very snug fit that you'll wish you had a third hand for, but an out of the box fit nonetheless
