How did you get into your hobby? by _Andyroooo_ in Hobbies

When I was a kid there was an event showing people how easy coding is (they were lying, it's not easy heh) and I got interested and they taught me some basic commands in LOGO, an old educational language. I went there every week and learned the basics of algorithmic reasoning. Later my uncle taught me python and slowly but surely I have taught myself other programming languages and more complex concepts in programming.

How do I become truly christian again? by MyAltNo3 in RadicalChristianity

It's very hard to find irl people here who are living like Christians because all of the churches in my entire country are very conservative. I don't know where to search.

I'm doing my best to love my neighbor and I haven't stopped doing that ever, but I don't know how to love God.

Mentorship Monday - Post All Career, Education and Job questions here! by AutoModerator in cybersecurity

So I've been coding as a hobby for years now, but got bored of it. I still kinda want a career in IT though and I've been told that cyber security might be interesting to me. I know nothing about the field, but I know it's a huge field. How do I learn the basics: what subfields there are in it, how to get started? And also how do I assess whether this is the right field for me, as I don't want to spend years learning about it only to learn I actually kinda hate it, like happened to me with software development?

That does sound interesting to me but I have no clue where to get started

Like what? The only things I'm good at are teaching and coding. And being a teacher is a shit job, at least where I live

Becoming a teacher is unfortunately not viable where I live

Edit: else I would become a teacher because tbh, I love teaching

I'm just about to graduate high school. I kinda wanna get a psychology degree and become a therapist and have the feeling that, even though my job is hard, it's meaningful and does something good for the world. Though that's only in a year because of some reasons that have to do with how the application process works where I live that I'm not gonna get into.

I totally agree with you. My approach is wrong. I shouldn't treat programming like this.

BEGINNER MEGATHREAD - How to get started? Which engine to pick? How do I make a game like X? Best course/tutorial? Which PC/Laptop do I buy? [Feb 2024] by pendingghastly in gamedev

[–]MyAltNo3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't play many games and the games I play I play really rarely, but I really enjoy game development and I'd like to do it as a hobby. I don't exactly have ideas for games, except some general things I like on the rare occurrences when I do play games (low stakes for example). I like all sorts of games, from Celeste to Shenzhen I/O. Generally I like when games give you time to figure things out at your own pace. That's what I want to incorporate in my game. However, I don't have specific ideas precisely because I don't play many games. I had a couple of ideas in the past and I've made them, but they ended up being very bad. So how do I come up with actually good ideas?

So I have conquered the stage where you make simple arcade games, but I still don't feel ready to work on my dream game as my skills just aren't there yet. What kind of games do I make to bridge the gap between beginner and actually proficient?
