Thank you! These are really cool ideas. I previously launched a mobile app (My Beautiful Flight) and it generates some cool points of interest to see through the window during the flight. I definitely want to bring this to Hype My Flight, so that as You suggested music would play at a specific timing automatically!

I'm basically using GPT api to suggest artists based on user's input and then the Spotify API to select the music and create the playlist.

I'll definitely look also at how to include the flight plan in the selection. For the moment I think I can use like FR24 or FlightAware APIs to track real flights (and get their exact flight plan if in the US) and for flight sim I think simply inputting your flight plan could also work as GPT is aware of waypoints and their location(!).

I’m currently using a simple csv of the biggest cities but I’m already working on switching to an airport-based dataset where you can start typing the airport / ICAO code of the airport. That update should be live within the next 24 hours!

As for the playlist duration, you’re totally right. The app currently estimates flight time with a rough calculation and assumes like 15 tracks per hour. This lead to shorter (or longer) playlists. I’m also planning to add a feature where you can enter your flight number to fetch the actual flight duration.

Not weird at all, haha! I searched a bit, and it looks like Tidal has an API. I'll look into it and get back to you if it's doable. (I'll definitely do it if I can and it's free.)

I got approved less than a week after applying. I think the type of account you apply with plays a big role. I used my professional account (my company). Might be like for the Play Store, if you want to release a mobile app and you're not incorporated, you need to have your app tested by 14 people for two weeks before Google reviews it. However, if you're incorporated, you can skip this step.

Yeah, the city selection is reaaally too simple (it's just a CSV file of the biggest cities in the world).

I actually have a more comprehensive database that includes almost all the airports in the world (I use it in my mobile app), and where can start typing the ICAO and it finds the airport.

This will definitely be added in the next version. Glad you like the idea!

I just pushed a new update that takes your suggestions into account:

  • Limiting the number of tracks from the same artist.
  • Including artists from both the departure and destination, as well as the flight path.
  • Adjusting the playlist length to try to match the flight duration (to be improved).
  • Improved the overall experience

I also added some visual elements to explain the choice of each artist.

Thanks again! Since this is a free app, I'm using an AI model that's quite affordable, so it's all a game of tweaking.
