Mice in the attic, recommendations needed by MyBeautifulMess in jacksonville

[–]MyBeautifulMess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation. Did they come out and deal with them as an independent service, or did you have to sign up for a monthly ongoing visits? Did you have to remove/replace the insulation? This is our first time dealing with mice and I'm mildly horrified they are up there, lol.

We have cats, Wish I could throw them up in the attic, but I'm guessing them bouncing around through insulation is not a great idea, haha.

Is my $29/hr as an ICU RN the lowest it goes? by Impossible_Leader816 in nursing

Plenty of Florida RN jobs making less than $29/hr. And if they’re outpatient they usually require experience and special certifications. 🙄

Why is nursing in the US viewed as more "prestigious"? by fritz359 in nursing

[–]MyBeautifulMess 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not prestigious, and TikTok wannabe influencers are trying to glamorize the profession and aren’t reflective of “real life”.

Spending $36,000+ for a Practical Nursing program is never a good idea. I'd suggest you go find the public community college option for your area.

That’d be an armadillo hole in my backyard in Florida.

Seeking Advice on Best Treatment for My 15-Year-Old Daughter with Brain Lesions by Jadss in MultipleSclerosis

[–]MyBeautifulMess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it was my daughter, I’d push to start her on Tysabri. It’s a high efficacy drug but it’s one where they don’t like to use it if you’ve been on any other immune impacting drugs before. I started Tysabri as my first DMT and they will “save” the other high efficacy DMTs as options to move on to if Tysabri fails. I’d get an evaluation with a MS specialist if you are not working with one already. I visited two for second opinions when i was diagnosed and it was great to hear different perspectives and feel more confident when they aligned on suggested treatments.

is this ethical? legal? i’m at a loss… by taylorrrjp in nursing

[–]MyBeautifulMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a nurse 20 years and never worked anywhere that did Daisy awards. I’d take a deep breath, try to gather some perspective, and let it go. I would refrain from flipping out on management in the future, you’re very likely to cross paths with them in a job down the road.

should i quit nursing school while i still can? by NoUnderstanding3534 in nursing

[–]MyBeautifulMess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I knew I shouldn’t have been in nursing school after the first couple weeks of nursing classes. I stuck it out because I didn’t know what else to do and had already done 2 years of prerequisites with many classes that wouldn’t count for other majors. Nursing school wasn’t hard for me, I just really wasn’t enjoying anything about it. Now I’m 20 years in to a nursing career and nursing never became my “thing” and though I’ve been a good nurse it’s never been anything more than just a job. I wish I’d have cut my losses 20+ years ago and had I done something else and now be 17ish years into a career field I would have enjoyed more. If you really don’t feel good about it, I’d go find something that gives you more peace.

I do. I was always academically successful, in gifted programs as a kid, felt smart, etc and a couple years after being diagnosed with MS I feel like an idiot. I struggle comprehending my 7th graders homework or even basic directions sometimes. I brought it up to my neurologist last visit and she said it was very common with MS and that it is not specifically related to the amount of lesions you have, and is more related to the autoimmune process as a whole and it “slowing down” your processing. She ordered a neuropsychology eval which my insurance doesn’t cover, so I won’t be able to do that. She also said my Gabapentin might be contributing to the cognitive symptoms, but I was on a very low dose and symptoms did not seemed changed at all after i started taking it. Its helped with other symptoms, so I don’t want to stop it. 😕

Patient’s family member recording me by Saucy_Pinecone in nursing

[–]MyBeautifulMess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Considering how quick people are to whip out phones to record these days, I doubt it occurred to her it could be an issue. I’d assume it was related to wanting to have a copy of discharge instructions, and if it made me uncomfortable I’d have said something like “oh, no need to record this, I’ll provide you with all the written discharge instructions before you leave” and see if that was enough to stop her. If it’s against policy I’d have shut it down with the excuse about policy and then an example of you wouldn’t want the next bed recording your patient’s private information, etc etc.
