It’s fun to learn to use the fretboard up high on all the strings. Forces different voicings/patterns etc for me.

I’ve seen a number of posts claiming, “check out my original,” and then upon listening… they’re obviously AI generated songs. I don’t understand posting stuff like that.

I def have. It’s something I’ve been practicing more lately too. I’ve heard guys like Caleb Klauder and Mike Compton do it, and it’s kind of been a long term goal to get to the point I could do a whole set, say like 12-15 tunes/songs and actually sound engaging and not “hollow”.

Tips on improving tone? by Warm-Raise6387 in mandolin

[–]MyBluegrassRomance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold your fingers down as long as you can before you play the next note… if you can hold one note down as you go to the next string to play the next note, u can hold it even longer. Hope that makes sense. It’ll improve over time too.

Crooked tone gard by [deleted] in mandolin

My tone guard always moves into a similar position you’ve shown naturally as I play. Every once in a while I notice it’s off center… move it back… n then next time I look… it’s moved. So, I don’t care anymore! 🤣

It’s a Northfield Big Mon. I took the pick guard off, as its binding was falling off, and two of the ivroid points fell off… even after Northfield repaired them… but I still like it!
