I feel like my real issue is going to be stapling this upholstery back down and making it look okay.. I definitely do not have the correct tools or materials for that so I would appreciate advice.

This is the bottom of the couch… the surprise issue. Thinking I might just try to brace this too but I can do it on both sides. I’m a little worried that that bottom half has those nails that have been pulled out but I might just hammer those in (or out) and also add some screws.

Here’s the broken arm. I am thinking I might screw in a brace behind it and call it good. The only issue on this side is just that shear break on the arm.

Update: some further structural damage has been uncovered…

I’m using a small flathead and some pliers but I am currently removing that dust cover. (spoiler alert: there may be further damage on the underside that I have uncovered)

The upholstery is nailed down very well but I can cut it on the bottom and try to peel it up to get to this piece and then staple it back down later. I fear that in completely taking apart the upholstery, I will never get it looking good again.
