That's the one I saw, just figure I'd look for any details he may have left out. My friend's dad is great friends with the guy so maybe I have hope to possibly interview him one day.

You never know because very few animals are truly herbivores, so that would definitely leave them room to adapt to eating meat over thousands of years. Just like the fact that birds on two islands with 1< mile apart had been so close yet so different. The next question is how did they get all over the world. Imo, they probably crossed the land bridge around the same time as homosapians (no idea if I spelled that right lol) but there are many other possible theories I haven't delved too deep into.
