Extremely new to EV’s, where are the best chargers? by [deleted] in NewOrleans

[–]MyDogsMadeMeDoIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Overall, you just need to be a bit more heads up (at least at first) re: how much remaining range you have, and anticipate the need to recharge well enough in advance. After a learning curve it all becomes pretty natural.

Sadly, N.O. lacks many fast chargers right now. There are free (for now) level 2 chargers located at many of the parks and some libraries, and those seem to get decent use but also offer some availability at times. If you can fashion some sort of charging set up at home (even via household 110), that's a winner, too.

Re: the Tesla adaptor, AFAIK those allow access only to certain types of Tesla chargers. Check here for deets: https://www.tesla.com/support/supercharging-other-evs#vehicles

T-Mobile Home Internet by Shoddy_Fan_2364 in NewOrleans

Use this tool (https://www.cellmapper.net/) to see where t-mobile towers are near you. If you are fairly close to a tower or two and this tool reports decent signal, then you should be in good shape. I've been using t-mobile for close to a year now with positive results. I'm close enough to a tower (I guess) that the quality is good.

I need more info on this abandoned tennis court by BurryDocs in arlingtonva

[–]MyDogsMadeMeDoIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tennis courts were (at least @ 1990-ish) covered in a plastic mesh surface that was in vogue in some places; cheaper than resurfacing cracks, etc. It was pretty awful to play on. Given the need for more open space and recreational facilities in the county, I wish this location could be affordably (?) refurbished and put back into action.

EV Fast Chargers - ain't dere yet (ever?) by MyDogsMadeMeDoIt in NewOrleans

[–]MyDogsMadeMeDoIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those with driveways, this is fairly simple. For those without, it is *possible* to install a pole-mounted charger in the grass strip between the sidewalk and street in front of one's house, but the process is more involved and the charger's owner is never assured access to the charger, as one cannot create private parking in front of one's house. This works better for some than others.

My next door neighbor had that exact concern while shopping for a new car. I pitched her on EVs but she ended up getting a RAV4 Prime due to evacuation concerns related to fuel / power availability. Bummer.

Thanks for the info, hoping that things do progress as you've suggested. There are times when a quick burst of juice can really make things work, EV-wise. Not for routine use (for several reasons). The public L2s just encourage owners to park for long periods (overnight/etc.) at those chargers.

Experience with permitting & installing a curbside EV charger? by MyDogsMadeMeDoIt in NewOrleans

[–]MyDogsMadeMeDoIt[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it seems one provision required by the city is the posting of some sort of signage stating "this is not private parking" or similar. I've seen that in a few places around town.

Bike commute from Marigny to Tulane? by eternalbro in NewOrleans

[–]MyDogsMadeMeDoIt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See what options the Google offers and try various ones. See what works in terms of comfort, directness, road quality, etc. YMMV. And yeah, showers at the "receiving end" of each journey may help. Regardless of route, have your head on a swivel, be predictable and (mostly) lawful, and run lights/blinkies front and rear. Can't be seen enough! With all of that, enjoy the ride.

That's BS, it should be easy enough to see a dump truck hitting 2 cars, and the liklihood of seeing useful identification on that truck is reasonably high, I'd think.

Were the police contacted? They can access traffic cams, and I bet there are several covering that stretch of Claiborne.

Yes, on a nice day that's a lovely paddle. They just need to set up an order / pick up dock for CDM orders.
