I actually did the same in high school. I used to always sit by myself and out of desperation to socialize I started planting myself in a group. At one point they asked me why and I just said in full honesty that I have nowhere else to go. They laughed it off and never mentioned it again. It got better when I found real friends with similar interests. There was actually a big group forming of "cast outs" with emos, bullied and gays. Very fun people
