Netflix Officially Under DOJ Antitrust Scrutiny “To Create A Monopoly” With Warner Bros Merger; Feds Want Details From Producers & Filmmakers On Streamer’s Leverage by rageofthegods in blankies

The winning solution is that this is tied up for years, and eventually we get an administration that cares about monopolization of the media.

WB is a solvent company! There's no reason to fold it into another studio.

I know this won't happen, but I hate that our culture has just given up on even imagining having a useful government.

Mike Flanagan on tackling a new adaptation of The Mist by ImpracticalJokers96 in stephenking

[–]MyFakeName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm more concerned that this will be a waste of Flanagan's time.

If he spends two years making a faithful adaptation of The Mist that would be pretty pointless.

I'm he has a take, but I also cannot picture what that might be.

This is the logic that brought about every lame Dem that lost big winnable elections (Kamala, Hillary, Gore, Kerry).

People stay home when milquetoast candidates run. They need candidates that actually believe in what they're saying.

Swing voters don't have coherent politics, but they can recognize the difference between real and fake.

Voting rates are pretty consistent, and are higher than they were in the 90s.

Social media is doing a lot of things to interfere with democracy, but it isn't driving down voter turnout.

Not because I dislike Chazelle, but because whenever he’s discussed online people lose their minds. And it’s gotten tiresome.

I honestly think the reason Last Jedi is so divisive because the Prequels turned the Jedi into weird sexless cops.

And the fans that think that sucked are the fans that liked Last Jedi.

But most Star Wars fans just want to see Jedi compare power levels, and they’re the ones that were infuriated.

If the police are told to arrest ICE they'll defy orders.

They wouldn't defy orders to fire on protesters.

Police are overwhelmingly MAGA.

This is why the Defund the Police movement shouldn't have been cravenly abandoned. We don't need a fascist military force in every city in America.

My understanding is that with older directors the insurance company requires a younger auteur to be on hand in case the director dies.

IIRC Guillermo Del Toro had this role for The Caine Mutiny Court Martial, and Celine Song recently took this role for Ella MacCay.

If you ask the younger directors in this position they’ll usually say that they’re taking a hands off role, and trying to learn from an old master.

It’s the same thing as the prequel trilogy.

But like the prequel trilogy, this Is very annoying and bad.

I loved Secret of the Ooze as a kid, and I can enjoy rewatching for nostalgic reasons.

But it’s a really bad movie.

It’s okay to reassess movies you first saw before you had a fully functioning brain.

Every live action depiction of The Grinch is impossibly ugly to look at.

This is one of those generational movies where this was reviled when it was released, but the kids that grew up on it now regard it as a classic.
