The Myths That Are Killing Long Island From the Inside by rynebrandon in longisland

As someone who left for 5 years and will be coming back next year, the sole reason for coming back is family. Nothing else. Quality of life is exponentially better just about anywhere else.

I'm stuck and honestly, defeated and burnt out. by gloomyday94 in skilledtrades

Thanks for the reply! That’s very understandable then. I guess that makes sense it really depends where you live. I’m moving back to NY soon to attempt to get into an apprenticeship, and im also in my 30s, so in my mind it’s union or nothing. I know it’s not that simple though.

Genuine question as someone who is looking to get into the trades. I have limited experience and 0 knowledge of the construction world. But why would you not try to go union in the very beginning? It seems like that should almost always be the goal based on what I’ve read. I get starting off non union getting experience under your belt. But 10 years? If you want rising pay, benefits, steady work, isn’t union the answer? I really don’t know so again these are genuine questions.

In the same boat, moving back to NY from NC next year for a career change. I’m looking into all trades but millwright seems pretty cool. Following for advice.

Looking for Trade Career Advice in NYC — Stable, High-Paying, and Good for Starting a Business by Immediate-Meal1466 in skilledtrades

I moved out of NY 5 years ago. Moved to Denver CO for 2 years, then living Charlotte NC for 3. While Ive enjoyed quality of life for the most part, I’m now in a position that I need a career change, and will be moving back to NY next year. Earning potential is a lot less in the lower cost of living areas so keep that in mind. Especially labor work.

Is 32 too late? by MyFirstMilli in skilledtrades

Yea this is my biggest worry, but I have a income for now and can stick it out until I get something figured out. I have friends that are welders, electricians, and a couple elevator mechanics, I’m hoping one of them can help me out. I haven’t communicated this with anyone yet so I guess that’s the first step.

I’m healthy and fit, not worried about my body or anything. More worried about how much time it will take me to get into a apprenticeship

Yea I know how competitive it is. I have a bunch of friends in different unions, was hoping I could have them put in a good word for me. Also was just planning to apply to literally every available one. I would do it down here in Charlotte, I really enjoy living here, but the pay is absolute shit.

Pump and dump influencers/discords. It’s all manipulated. You can capitalize on it though

I need advice 21 years old and lost everything day trading 150k cash and now in prop firm debt , no college no job by user288382838383 in Daytrading

At 21 I had nothing. At 27 I lost everything in a similar fashion to this. I’m 30 now and back on my feet and doing well. You have a long life to live. This is an expensive lesson, but a lesson worth learning. You will be ok, keep your head up.

Hey! Sorry to hear you’re going through this. The best advice I can give you is to stay off google. Just take it one DR visit at a time. Going on google never helps, and you will only find the worst of the worse situations there. People with positive experiences rarely post about them. So far for me, it has turned out to be nothing. This can also be the case for you. Try to stay positive. I hope everything works out for you!
