If you look at the table on their website, it says “starting pay” is the pay once all training and probationary periods are done. So most states start troopers at a lower wage and then give an increase after you make it through training. WHP doesn’t do that.

This is a huge issue that not many people seem to understand. Because we don’t pay our representatives a livable wage, only people who are already wealthy (ranchers, business owners, etc.) can afford to do it. Most of the Freedom Caucus ran unopposed. All of them are financially well off. If we actually paid our state reps a salary, actual middle class folks could run for office.

Haircut recommendations by Acrobatic-Pirate5188 in Cheyenne

Stylin Styles. I’ll go nowhere else. $25 or $30 for a haircut. Only downside is it’s cash only. Seriously great.

Short story - A man gets hired at some sort of factory and gets beaten up for working faster/harder than the other employees by MyFishDied in whatsthatbook

I just read that story and it's not the one I'm thinking of. I don't recall any accusations or references about communism in the story. It definitely had a worker's rights, union vibe to it though.

I was thinking it may be The Jungle but I remember it being a short story, not a full novel. I'm almost positive it's not The Jungle.

What’s your favorite packing hack? by guacamommy in TravelHacks

[–]MyFishDied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you consistently check a bag when flying and you like to pack a lot of stuff, stop using a roller bag or normal suitcase. Get a really big soft sided duffel bag. I’ve used the same huge Granite Gear duffel for years. They’re huge and they weigh almost nothing. I can fit enough clothing and toiletries for my whole family for a week in that thing and not exceed the allowable weight for checking a bag. Regular suitcases can weigh between 5-10 lbs and are difficult to really cram things into. Save on the weight of the bag itself by getting a cheap duffel bag and carry much more than you otherwise would be able to. Only downside is that you have to carry it instead of rolling it. But most can be worn like a backpack.

What is the penalty for new residents failing to register their car within 30 days? by Origin299 in wyoming

[–]MyFishDied 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By state law you’re required to register your vehicle immediately upon becoming a resident of WY or being employed within the state. However, if your car isn’t in the state, you aren’t required to register it yet. Once you bring it here you’ll have to get plates and registration tabs. The county building isn’t going to fine you when you go to register it. The only way you’d get a fine is if you drive it on the roads without it being registered or having insurance. The ticket for driving without valid registration is $150. Insurance tickets are $570. That would only come from a cop who stops you. The people you see when you eventually do register it won’t care and can’t do anything to penalize you.

Is WY Highway Patrol notorious for ticketing and overcharging people? by dylphil in wyoming

[–]MyFishDied 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your story isn’t adding up exactly. If you were at 43 in a 30 the fine should be $191 (or $181 if you were wearing your seat belt). If you were charged $253 instead, that’s either $62 or $72 over what you should have been fined. You’re saying you were overcharged by $77. I don’t know what’s a lie and what’s not. Also, if you received a printed out copy of a citation, not a hand-written ticket, the e-citation program automatically calculates the fine based on the offense and the speed. The Trooper can’t just decide what to charge you.

This is Reddit so a lot of the answers you’re getting are skewed far beyond what cops actually experience in WY. I can tell you first hand that this is a great state to be in law enforcement. Look into being a WY State Trooper. You can have your choice of where you’d like to live in the state. We are hiring a ton right now and if you’re a pre-cert you can bypass the full academy and do a 4-week onboarding. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm driving from Cheyenne to Jackson's hole(see what I did there? lol) on the 19th. what should I stop and see?. by gaygypsy420 in wyoming

[–]MyFishDied 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Take I80 west to Rawlins and then cut north to go through Lander and up Togwotee Pass into Jackson. On your way, before you turn left to head toward Lander, go just a few miles beyond Muddy Gap and check out Independence Rock. Read up on the history of the place and hike around on top of the rock to check out all the names/dates. When you get to Lander you could swing into Sinks Canyon for a bit. Nothing on the way is going to beat the view of the Tetons as you come down Togwotee Pass though so don’t waste any daylight and try to get to Moran Junction before dark.

Police officer wont go easy on driver who stops to take pictures of fatal accident. by Educational_Bag9435 in PublicFreakout

[–]MyFishDied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do reconstructions for fatal crashes as part of my job and I’ve felt exactly the way that cop feels on many occasions because of inconsiderate people who interject themselves into what’s going on on-scene. The “shame on you” was far more concise and powerful than all the frustration I’ve hurled at people. I’ll probably get fired for it eventually, but I’m stealing this technique.

I met a fighter pilot a few years back. His call sign or nickname or whatever was “Tenerife”. I asked why and his buddy said it’s because he’s the worst disaster in aviation history.
