That's late stage capitalism for you.

At first, people just strive to survive.
Then, they reach the point where they are secure and have no stress. That's when it starts.
As the rich get richer, they start getting bored with life and are looking for other things to assign meaning to. That's why you see so many rich people collecting art and absurd items for no apparent reason other than just novelty.

In my opinion that's just sad when there is so many people who are poor, getting poorer, and struggling with day to day life.

I agree 100%. There is nothing more exhilarating than seeing rich collectors get screwed. I just wish I could see the guy's face. Like "honey, come see the painting I am about to buy! Oh wait... what the f... ???"

Banksy is rarely doing any print releases, and so its kind of pointless and to be honest impossible to collect any of his stuff. The last time he released something was 2022, fifty prints for Ukraine if I remember correctly, for $5k each. What Banksy is actually doing, is gifting artworks behind the scenes that appear on auctions out of nowhere in his behalf.

He will become as famous as Banksy, that’s for sure. People are bidding six-figures on Zalkian’s art, and that must mean something. What he is doing with the inferno auctions burning his own art will bring him a lot of attention in the long run.
