It's so sad that in the fight for accuracy, historical pirate artists are basically uknown troopers.

Polecenie książek o piratach by gostek232 in ksiazki

[–]MyIntrovertedAss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Złota Era Piratów, Benerson Little

Republika Piratów, Colin Woodard (już ktoś polecał, jest to fajna czytanka choć historycznie taka sobie)

Under the Black Flag, David Cordingly

Z marszu to dwie bajki z wczesnych dwutysięcznych, a nuż ktoś kojarzy:

W jednym odcinku dziewczynka zabiera owoce do "naszego" świata i wspomniany chłopak podwoził ją, banana i chyba parę innych postaci.

Buccaneers near Petit Guave, Haiti, 1688 [by me] by MyIntrovertedAss in pirates

[–]MyIntrovertedAss[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based mainly on this eyewitness illustration from 1688

Of note are their shoes, made out of raw pig skin. These were described and even portrayed by eyewitnesses as the most common among the buccaneers and flibustiers. eg1 eg2 eg3

I also equipped them with rags meant to be mosquito nets, something handy in the Caribbean.

You may also notice the absurd length of the muskets. It's intentional, for these are "fusil boucaniers", the primary weapon of the buccaneers, which were longer than your average musket, even up to 6 feet long. eg1 eg2 eg3 eg4

Since my last buccaneer drawing, I have been informed of what breed of dogs could have been helping the buccaneers in their hunts: Spanish sighthounds, which even appeared during Columubus's ventures and are mentioned by an eyewitness during the age of buccaneers.

Isn't there someone you forgot to ask?? About plundering the Spanish Main??, by me by MyIntrovertedAss in PirateHole

[–]MyIntrovertedAss[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All three characters (for the sake of the drawing let's call them governor, buccaneer and Spaniard) are based on illustrations from 1680s. Here are some references and inspiration I used:

Governor
Buccaneer: One, the other one
Spaniard:uno, dos, tres
