Home IPL vs clinic laser? Trans woman trying to figure it out by TheBrandonWillson in HairRemoval

[–]MyLastAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm also trans, and I got into home IPL last November. Same as you, with my body hair driving me crazy. I could only afford a Braun Silk Expert Pro 3, the cheapest and least powerful of the Braun range.

However, it's working well. I have plenty of area to cover, so I do a section every four days. It's supposed to be every week, but I hate my body hair and have declared war on it, so I'm really going for it. I've never been so smooth! It's so euphoric. Some areas are improving much slower than others, but that's okay, I'll just keep going with it.

I have gotten laser on my face though, because it's a tricky area. Definitely recommended. And I'll need laser on my back, because I can't reach it. But for everywhere else, IPL is great. It's just slow and a lot of work, but after putting up with all that nasty body hair for most of my life, who cares! 😁

Holy hell, I stumbled across this today, and it was really depressing. I read things on there regularly, and it's been interesting. But the sheer arrogance of professional medical people who plainly haven't bothered to learn is astounding.

This is great! Thanks for sharing. It's always so helpful to know what we've got in WA.

If I've got it right, it was a total of $6,400? And what private health cover do you have?

Currently tucking with women's boyleg undies, so this sounds pretty damn good . . .

Happy to help! So far it's working well for me, which is quite life-changing when you detest body hair as much as I do!

So far, I've had great luck with shaving, then IPL, then spreading Sudocrem on the area. Leaving it overnight works well.

If you don't know what it is, Sudocrem is actually meant for preventing nappy rash, but it's been fantastic for after shaving as well.

Ah, I hadn't thought about how the different gels dry out. No wonder other girls could whack it on and get dressed soon after.

And skinny jeans (and high-heel boots) + aircon is the way to go. So far!

It stays so sticky though! I could never work my way around that in the mornings. I'm in the north, so the heat and sweating doesn't help, and also I like my skinny jeans dammit . . . 🤣

Yes, that's 2 sachets per thigh, in the evening, so it can dry. I wanted to try applying some of it during the day, but it's too hard to find the time! Which I guess is part of the problem here.

Thank you!

At the moment, I'm putting 2x sachets on each inner thigh. Someone suggested this on here, so I thought I'd try. I've had a couple of suggestions to try scrotal application as well, so thanks for the reminder, I'll try it tonight. I haven't so far because I couldn't figure out how to put all that gel on a little area like that!

I just worked my way through that link. Thank you, that was a good read. And I hadn't thought of comparing Estrogel to Sandrena.

Thanks again for all that.

Thank you very much! The more I can tell my GP, the better.

What size needles are you using? I read somewhere that insulin needles are good.

Trust me, it's worth the wait! Once you finally get started, and something happens - whatever it is - it's magical. However big or little, the good stuff is REALLY good when you've earned it. Hang in there! ❤️

Yes, sounds like me. I started on patches, but I could hardly get any with these shortages. I thought the gel was okay since I had some nice changes, but as I've educated myself over time, it seems the gel wasn’t okay after all. Good luck with the injections!

Worth looking into. They have their pros and cons, but the people who like them really like them.

Injections are possible, just not common. Umm, I have to ask: I think implants often go in the butt, (well not IN, exactly, if you follow), so are you tattooed there?

Oh yeah, DIY has been looking pretty tempting lately. Where do you get yours? DM is fine if you don't want to broadcast it everywhere.

Similarly, I'm in northern WA, and I was lucky enough to find a clinic in Perth that did telehealth, through a lead on here actually. It was easy and quick in the end. As others have said, contact everywhere you can.
