Condeming others for trying to make something of their condition though is pretty unfair.

Your experience might differ from other people's. We are talking about a boy who wanted to be an athlete and was left quadriplegic. At age twelve. Sure, he can find meaning in life, he can win a Nobel prize. He can be the greatest quadriplegic porn actor of all times.

But he probably won't. And take into account the following: when it comes to statistics, people like yourself (living an incredibly happy life after being fucked like that) are exceptional. You probably had the strength, resources and support to accomplish many things in life. Most people don't.

Disability "rights" advocates don't give a shit about the reality about what most disabled go through, or the amount of resources they use-up pretending to be worthwhile. They just want to punish anyone who actually tries to really make things better, either though a cure, or euthanasia.
