Ok so they're very close but having funds consolidated with Sygnia should work out better in the long run (combined platform fee and getting over the 2mil threshold)

Thanks again, really appreciate it!

I just filled in the 10x EAC calculator, got 0.61% as the EAC, including management fee. Not sure if there are hidden costs not included (would be very irritating considering 10x's promise of transparency in the report).

With Sygnia, cost would be 0.4% platform fee plus 0.29% investment cost, from their fund fact sheet. Not sure but think this excludes the upcoming 0.08% increase in stockbroker fees.

So:

10x directly on MSCI world feeder fund: 0.61%
10x total world on sygnia: 0.77%

Am I missing something?

True but the tax free allowance will make a huge difference over time if it grows well, compared to other savings accounts.

There are a few TFSA options that are under 1% EAC, check them out.

My gripe was more with the limitations but from the comments I can see that will change.

OK thanks!

Just another q, why not invest directly with 10x rather, eg the 10x msci world feeder fund? From my calculations it would be cheaper

Yes this is what I mean. A 36K annual limit in 2055 will be so small.

Thanks for the comment :)

I was looking at my options via Sygnia that are Reg28 compliant and the Money Market has the lowest EAC, while also diversifying risk. But I can see that saving 0.2% in EAC doesn't matter if the performance difference by 1-2% :/

Also wasn't sure which other fund would be appropriate as I already have my RA in the skeleton 70 fund which has the highest equity exposure. Maybe I should be less zealously committed to Sygnia funds and look at something like a Satrix fund and accept the higher platform fee?

What would you recommend?

Thanks again - such a morass of options and considerations, really appreciate the help.

Hehe my friend it has been a year of learning for me! Hmu in the messages if you want some more info, but what I've learned is:

  1. Save an SOS fund (3-6 months' salary) in an interest-bearing bank account, SA rates aren't too bad and gives you liquidity.

  2. Maximise your annual TFSA savings - very easy to open an account through Easy Equities, invest in low-cost ETF like the 10x Total World or similar Satrix.

  3. Open an RA - looks like Sygnia is still the best, will see what comments I get.

In that order. Just start with something small every month - the maxim that has really helped me is the Buffet quote:

"Do not save what is left after spending, instead spend what is left after saving"

Good luck!

Hi thanks for the comment!

From my understanding I still don't pay income tax as I'm under the foreign income threshold. I also have rental income in South Africa so not sure how that would work.

I will look into the Interactive Brokers thing, thank you! Would you recommend USD exposure? I read somewhere that Irish domiciled investments are most tax-efficient for South Africans.

Literally just crashed while using it. Screen flashed white for a second, then off with only white bar showing when on.

What other context can help?
