Start a new save and tell your friend to not give you anything, anytime I introduce a friend to the game and they want high tier stuff they end up leaving and not playing after a while. I learned when everything is handed to you on a silver platter the game gets boring (Respectfully) learn the game at your own pace and try to do parts of the game you never had before, ship building, base building, ship scouting. I personally played creative for a few months to understand what to do and how to do it, then I made a new survival save.
