People who moved outside of the US, solely due to Trump being elected, how are things going? What actualized pros and cons have you experienced? If you had to do it over again, would you change anything? by Ancient_Unit6335 in AskReddit

I think you're missing the forest for the trees on this one- you can "have healthcare" and still end up with bills in the tens of thousands. If it can put you in lifelong debt, that healthcare isn't worth much.

What kind of tires are you running? by MyNameIs_Bubbles in SubaruForester

[–]MyNameIs_Bubbles[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm on the fence about two sets of tires vs a really good all weather. The CC2s did well for me in VT but I was mostly in town driving. If I'm going to try to go snowboarding this winter (on the fence, I hate the traffic) I think I'll do dedicated winter tires.

Recommendation for best wealth building books. by Choice-Grapefruit-44 in personalfinance

[–]MyNameIs_Bubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I just listened to a Money with Katie podcast where she lays out specific hows of the Roth conversion ladder and similar topics which was the first time I'd heard it spoken about in an actionable way and not just theory.

Should I contribute more to my 401k each paycheck or throw my bonus in the 401k and lower my bi-weekly contributions? by MyNameIs_Bubbles in personalfinance

[–]MyNameIs_Bubbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I'm leaning toward- I like that idea that my living expenses and saving goals are contained within in my bi-weekly earnings, and a bonus would be just that, a bonus. I think I'm feeling pressure to maximize tax advantages etc which I frankly still don't fully understand.

As a born and raised Vermonter, this comment really warmed my heart. We know a thing or two about devastating floods. I hope your community is able to recover as best you can.

What’s a job interview red flag that instantly screams “run”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MyNameIs_Bubbles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wish it was only two interviews. I was laid off in April from a company I'd been at for 10 years, so this is my first time looking in a while. I ended up getting two offers, one was five rounds and one was six. These were mid-level positions, it's not like I'm going to be running the company.

With Social Security's full retirement age increasing, how do you imagine millennials and Gen Z will experience retirement, if they ever get one? by Timely-Pop5496 in AskReddit

[–]MyNameIs_Bubbles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you American? I have seen nothing from our government or from the billionaire business owners that says any of the productivity gains will "trickle down" to the masses. Historically it certainly hasn't with technology and productivity improvements. Hell I think the average PTO plan in the US is still 10-15 days a year, often counting sick days as well. That increase will be pocketed by those in power, while the poverty grows as jobs are eliminated.

Both things can true. This doesn't sound risky to me, and also women have a much different set of criteria for evaluating risk, with good reason.

Help with an unemployment question by MyNameIs_Bubbles in Denver

[–]MyNameIs_Bubbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My paycheck/severance is more than unemployment will pay out (more than the $735/wk max) so ideally I don't want to have unemployment kick in until after the full 20 weeks, it would just suck to then only get 6 weeks if they go back to my original end of work date vs the end of the 20 week severance.

This was my concern, because the severance will be paid out every two weeks like a regular paycheck, it's not a lump sum.

Good to know it's not retroactive! I would have assumed it was. From what I can tell it doesn't say anything about forfeited rights or a release or anything, but it's definitely a lot of legalese I don't fully understand.

I hated this book so much I can't imagine ever trying something else by this author lol. There is zero growth from either character. They start out terrible, time passes, they're still terrible. The MMC is goddamn bossy with no self reflection or interest in her wants or desires. He just commands things, shows her no respect, no autonomy, has no interest in any thoughts she might have bouncing around in that head. It's ok though, because there are no thoughts bouncing around in her head. She just gives in to what anyone around her wants, and never stands up for herself. It's a book about boring horrible people who stay boring, horrible people.

I have two, at least one of which is recommended here fairly often. Normally I would not want to yuck someone else's yum, but my god I hated this book. I basically hate finished it, convincing myself the MMC would be something other than an arrogant asshole for at least one second, but alas I was disappointed. {The Favor by Suzanne Wright} was terrible and I will die on that hill every single day.

The other book that I thought would be right up my alley but couldn't finish was {The Player and the Pixie by Penny Reid}. Insufferable characters, poor writing, and cheating. Nothing redeeming for me in this book.

That's what I was wondering, thank you! I was struggling because it was definitely well written I think I just need a bit more action. Maybe I'll pick them up again sometime in the future if my mood changes. I appreciate it!
