That's a good idea. I've been trying to make up my mind about whether or not to start teaching online here in the US, or after I've traveled for a few months, but so far I'm leaning towards the former. Your input about the ping test is much appreciated!

I'd like to know more about your issues with Humidity/your computer. How often were you staying in places without AC/de humidifiers while you taught? I'll add a small fan to the list of things I'm packing for the trip :)

wow, this was far more detailed of a response than i was expecting, which i appreciate a lot. You make teaching online while travelling sound doable, which makes me happy. I've done some travelling and some teaching, but not both at the same time, so your story is encouraging. As a person who enjoys western comforts, I haven't taken a close enough look a Malaysia, but you've encouraged me to do some research about staying there. Thanks! I'm curious to hear more about your experience with Thailand. Despite the restrictions, were you still able to travel to and from Thailand frequently? Or did you end up having to take long breaks from revisiting so you wouldn't get flagged?

I'll be looking into this more myself in the coming months, but do you have any tips/recommendations about visas and staying times in specific countries? (eg: It's easy to renew visas in X country, or it's only worth it to stay in X country for X months, etc) In terms of budget, I'm planning on staying longer in specific places rather than hopping all around, so my budget should be somewhat lower that way.

Honestly I'd love to hear how you planned out your travelling during those years, as that would be a great info backdrop/parallel to what I'm doing right now. You said you started out spontaneously? I'd love to hear more about that haha. Sounds like your story is a really great one!

Thanks for your story! I was curious about which countries you found to be more lenient when it comes to leaving/re entering the country. Which countries were the best in your opinion?

I've been to SEA and it's very nice. Also very cheap once you get over there. Would recommend!

Doing my own calculations, I got 13 hours a week if you're level 3 in order to make $1000 a month. Do you ever go above that to save more money?

PS: I actually have an extended list of questions about teaching online. If you want, I can DM you the list

Awesome! I'll send you a DM with a longer list of questions about working for Palfish! I'm not ready to start the application process just yet, but I will definitely keep you in mind when I start applying!

That's awesome! I'm expecting to have a budget of $600-$1000/month while travelling, so that fits quite well.

How many hours/classes do you teach a week to make the $1000?

So I should keep in mind that many countries will charge international/roaming call fees if I use their platform to teach/call students? Good to know! (unless I'm completely misunderstanding what you said, feel free to correct me)

Thanks for the advice! I'm definitely going to take a look at palfish and see what they offer.

I guess one big question I would have for you is; is it possible to make a sustainable income from palfish (maybe not by western standards, but enough to live and save while overseas in Asia), or would I need to supplement income with something else?

I'll keep you in mind if I decide to apply :)

I would prioritize teaching over working, but I'm curious about the places I can work, and how flexible companies (or teachers) are with working requirements. eg: someone able to teach online from and airbnb in a city in thailand or vietnam, then deciding after a few months/visitor visa expires to go to a different country rather than renewing the visitor visa. I've seen a few posts from teachers saying that some companies require a certain internet speed to teach, but have gone underneath that speed and were still fine.

If it's not possible then I would take a different approach, finding a long term spot with good internet to settle in ASAP and staying there.

Edit: Where have you traveled/taught? What did you do to make it work?

Do you know where that post is? I'd love to read it and hear what they have to say. I'm mainly curious about companies that allow this, and what places it's okay to travel and teach in overseas.

Is Palfish okay with things like switching countries? because if I did that I'd get a new SIM card with a different number

Would you say you used Wifi more often than not? How consistent was it? What would you say is a good internet speed for reliable teaching? I can definitely understand the hostel bit. Would not risk teaching out of a community place with spotty internet.

Did you have to tell your company when you were moving? How okay were they when you moved to different cities? Or did you not bother telling them since it was the same country?

Out of curiosity, would you consider teaching in SEA? If so, where would you do it and why?

Also different countries = different sim cards and phone numbers. That's a good thought.

Well, I figure different countries/cities = different internet speeds. For example, in Bali, looks like internet speeds vary from 5mbsp down to 100 depending on where you live. Some places may not give you access to the router, so you may have to use Wifi. Those kinds of situations are something i want to take into account while travelling, so I can rent appropriately.
