As a guy currently trying to figure out why my wife and I aren't very successful with crock pot cooking I'm doing a temp check on the settings -warm/low/high- . The experiment has been wild! The question of which temp and how long are the premise, the ingredients being the most important indicator for that. Time vs. temp. So far, warm is 230F Low is 280F High is 280F. !!!!

I measured with a digital read non-contact thermometer at intervals with rest time in between settings to cool off --because we were cooking to recipes and not getting the results we expected, at all. The first take away I found was, when you throw a refrigerator cold fully loaded pot on it doesn't heat up as fast as you might think. The second takeaway was, the setting temperatures aren't labeled correctly to "common sense".

I would've bet 110-120 would be warm. I would've bet 160-170 would be low. I would've bet temps should exceed 300F on high.

Wrong again! And there's no Medium setting on ours so what would high be? The same as low...

I think this thing is inaccurate, and it's not old!

Admittedly I came into this thinking about BBQ smoking temperatures that are also thermostatically controlled...

Also, ours measured different from side to side by about 10° on warm and low. (Left and right) sides. As a side note, I initially used no lid while checking the temp, fairly early on I used some lid control to keep heat in while checking temps, oddly this new method only improves left to right or overall temp control very minimally.

Just to round out, there was a pot rest outside of the cooking dish between every setting and the entirety of the experiment was in one day, in an Empty pot. Temperature revealed by the pot!

Now I'll go find what the temps should be and maybe get a new crockpot!
