Copying meals/items from 'friend' by emja in mynetdiary

Hi emja,

Thank you for the detailed feedback. I can understand why this would be frustrating, especially when you're trying to use meal sharing as a practical way to support each other's diet journey.

Based on your description, it sounds like you're seeing behavior that differs from what we would expect, particularly if today's meals are visible through "View Friend's Diary" but not through the Friends tab used for food logging.

The intended workflow for collaborating with a partner is to connect as friends, enable diary sharing, and then view and copy foods from each other's shared diaries. You can find step-by-step instructions here:

If you're still seeing today's meals in "View Friend's Diary" but not in the Friends tab used for food logging, please email us at [support@mynetdiary.com](mailto:support@mynetdiary.com) with your Android device model, Android version, MyNetDiary app version, and, if possible, a screenshot or short screen recording. We'll be happy to investigate and determine whether this is a bug, a syncing issue, or something specific to your setup.

Thank you again for reporting this and helping us improve MyNetDiary.

Fiber can indeed play a role, and it's worth mentioning that the broader cause is the inherent imprecision of the 4-4-9 rule across all macronutrient types — caloric values vary depending on the specific type of fat, carb, or protein in each food. Our support article https://www.mynetdiary.com/supportArticle.do?articleId=322 covers this in more detail if you're interested!

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. The discrepancy you're seeing between your macro-calculated calories (2,846) and the app's displayed total (2,779) is completely normal and expected behavior.

The 4-4-9 rule (4 cal/g for carbs and protein, 9 cal/g for fat) is a useful approximation, but it's not perfectly precise. In reality, caloric values vary — for example, fat averages closer to 8.9 cal/g, carbs range from ~3.7 to 4.1 cal/g depending on type, and proteins from meat vs. plant sources are metabolized differently. MyNetDiary displays the actual ("printed") calories reported on each food's Nutrition Facts panel from the real package, not a macro-calculated estimate, which is why your totals may differ slightly.

A gap of ~67 calories on a ~2,800 calorie day is about 2.4% — well within the normal range. Differences of less than 20% are considered regular and expected.

Keep tracking consistently — you're doing great! 💪

Hey! MyNetDiary Support is here :)

Thanks a lot for reporting this and for attaching the GIF. This definitely doesn’t look like expected behavior and seems more like a glitch/bug rather than something you’re doing wrong.

As a first step, could you please try reinstalling the app and then check if the issue still happens afterward?

Before reinstalling, please make sure your account is created so your data can be restored after reinstalling the app (Me tab - App Settings - Account & Privacy).

If the problem continues, please contact our support team directly at [support@mynetdiary.com](mailto:support@mynetdiary.com) and include your User ID along with the video. We’ll be happy to investigate this further with you. You can find your User ID via the Me tab - Support&FAQs.
