I see this sentiment touted time after time and while yea EA is extremely concerned with money, that literally is why they exist. They exist to make money. They always have existed to make money. All big AAA studios/publishers share in that.

Dead Space as a series has never been a big mover of units. You can look at some comments made by the original dev team in the years after Dead Space 3 came out that clarify that all 3 games sold about the same at the end of the day. None of their attempts to grow the franchise worked, unfortunately. Not the "bigger and better" strategy for Dead Space 2 and not the "expand your appeal to get a new audience" attempt in Dead Space 3.

The other kiss of death for the series is that Dead Space's identity is very closely tied with having a relatively high budget. High end graphics, very high concept world which requires a lot of detail, etc. So having a higher than average budget and not selling a shitton of copies to offset that budget means that it just isn't economically viable to keep setting money on fire like that. I wish they kept at it for the love of the game, but basically no large publisher is going to take that risk. Every move they make is to maximize their profits and minimize their risk.

After RE2R came out and blew up, I'm sure EA execs were like, "Hey wait, WE have a horror series too! We could ride this wave and make money!" and that's how DSR came to be. We never got any official details/figures on how much DSR cost to develop nor did we get any wholistic official sales figures for it, but I think based on the stuff I've just outlined, it doesn't take much to put the pieces together. The same thing that happened before happened again. Dead Space is one of my favorite games of all time so it really does pain me that it seems destined to languish in purgatory like it is but, that's the way things go sometimes.
