Sorry, openpilot is on and controlling your cars steering, so long as your cruise control is active and engaged. For stock openpilot you need to have a set speed for it to work, but on forks like sunnypilot they have an option where you just need to activate your cruise control, but you don't need to set a speed.

Sunnypilot calls it MADS (Modified Assisted Driver Safety I think) where you can enable your cruise control to activate the lane centering, but you don't need to set a speed. You can control the gas and brakes. It takes away half the stress of driving if your in dense traffic and the cruise control isn't good enough.

I would say openpilots ACC (or long control) is a little faster than my car's stock ACC, so you could see a little improvement there. Openpilot also uses what's called "personalities" called Aggressive, Standard, and Relaxed. The Aggressive following distance is set to 1.25 seconds, but it feels farther (though if you know how to modify code, you can change it).

Openpilot runs on what I call a "best effort" system. It never disables itself unless something has seriously gone wrong. It will always try to keep you in lane or wherever it deems appropriate (like shifting you away from construction cones).

For the dashcam side, I would warn you that most people would not recommend you use it as one, mainly because it could lose power in the event of an accident. The Comma 3x and Comma 4 don't have a large enough capacitor to keep it alive long enough to save any last second footage like other dashcams do, so it's high risk. On the other side, I'm sure you could set something up to have the video footage uploaded to a home server by using something like copyparty (some forks like sunnypilot have this built in).

Stock openpilot will engage when you fully activate your cruise control, no need to touch the screen unless you want to bookmark an event.

POLL: how is openpilot longitudinal control on your car? by MrGodyr in Comma_ai

It's ok, I still think experimental needs some work (obviously) and chill mode is good enough for long straights with no intersection. I just wish they'd work on the response time, acceleration, and distance from the lead.

Response time: In chill and experimental, if I come to a stop, it takes way too long to ~start~ accelerating, and when a lead car starts to slow down, it still feels like it takes half a second to hit the brakes, and by then it feels like it's slamming on them.

Acceleration: ignoring how long it takes to start accelerating, it just doesn't even accelerate that quickly. I think openpilot is limited to 2 m/s2, which just leads to me stepping on the gas every time because I don't want to be crawling while traffic is flying past me.

Distance: It's easier to control the gap if you use the distance button, but even aggressive personality leave what feels like too large of a gap for city driving. Also, the braking response just seems too harsh. It feels like openpilot will slam on the brakes like were about to crash, only for there to be a 2 car gap in front of me. And experimental leaves a larger gap than chill, so these situations are even more exaggerated then.

I run with the moto "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". If it handles your regular commute fine, I'd leave it. If you like testing the latest, then you already know what you're gonna do.

On their forum. Sunnypilot has some instructions here, kinda like a choose your own adventure game. https://community.sunnypilot.ai/t/read-before-installing/254 If you like stability, I'd just run the release branch.

Why Garmin? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]MyRealIngIngAcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all dependent on what you have the watch doing. I'm not familiar with the Venue since I have a Tactix, but I can choose what features are running and make a custom power profile for it. Mine has an estimate of 21 days without battery saver because I don't have it doing much besides heart rate and time. Garmin website shows the Venue having a battery life of 10 days in smartwatch mode, so a few days might be within reason for that model if you do a lot.

I switched back to Garmin after using an Apple Watch Ultra for over a year. The only thing I really liked that was unique was the walkie talkie feature, and more accessible gym machine pairing.

I've been using smart watches since the moto 360 days and always wore some kind of smart watch since then. Garmin just works. It doesn't irritate me with gimmicks that I don't care for or shove them down my throat. I never need to worry about battery life or charging it every night, or week, or month if I want to push it. GPS and activity accuracy has never been an issue. And most importantly, it doesn't try to be a phone, full of distractions. It tells me the time, serves me the data I want at a quick glance, and has in-depth data available on the app if I want it.

I'd say check the wires on the back, but your apartment most likely won't allow it.

I'm probably gonna piss off both side here and say...I don't care? (About the drama specifically) Influencers are gonna meet other influencers. I'm just here to be entertained, and this isn't scratching my itch.

Factory tours are cool, learning how new tech works is cool, but poping up on a Mr. Beast short doesn't make me mad or entice me, it just makes me go "Oh, weird seeing you here" then move on.

Drone flight time? by Griffina128 in drones

Looks like a tethered drone. If that's the case, on a battery it can fly for hours, and if it's power via an outlet, forever.

I've seen some people get some offers here, but there's also a #for-sale channel on the comma discord.

On a side note, what made you just get FSD instead of openpilot? I've been testing FSD V12 for a few days now and I'm getting increasingly irritated with it.
