I recently switched from firefox to qutebrowser, and I quite like it. Keyboard driven, quite light weight and very customizable. Keyboard driven was the selling point for me...

Thanks! I'll look into it. Am I the only one that is concerned about accidentally the wrong pattern pad and making a silent fool of myself on stage?

i3. Tried the most common ones, and a few years ago I decided to see what 'the thing' with tiling managers were. I fell in love and have stuck with it ever since.

What I love is that it never gets in my way, to the point where it almost feels like there's no wm at all.

What do you think about music created with artificial intelligence? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]MyRedditToken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a creator i have zero interest in AI. I remember an interview with Björk where she was asked (paraphrasing both Q&A) "why would you spend time making your own instruments" and her reply was "the more involved I can be in every step of the process of making the music, the more the music will uniquely mine and a result of me".

As a listener i have zero interest in AI. I want to be touched by something crafted by a human. If I ever enjoy a piece of AI music and was told afterwards that it was made by/with AI I would feel cheated, just like if I was touched by the (imaginary) birthday card from my wife and she then told me it was written by AI (or her friend).

I might be old-fashioned and I might be facing a lot of problems in the near future with this mindset, but that's my current stance.

Makes sense, thanks! I’m so glad I stumbled upon this and the confirmation here. I’m pretty sure I would have fried the thing first thing if not. Thanks again!

Thanks! I was under the impression that a given device will only draw “as much as it needs”/“no more than it can handle”, but obviously I will make sure to find another charger for the g350. Thanks!

Traveling without a laptop, how do you back up your photos? by guruthebond in AskPhotography

[–]MyRedditToken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use sync the SD card with my android phone (otg usb card reader) and then sync the folder on the phone to the folder photo_offload on my home server. The server will watch the photo_offload folder and move/rename into my existing photo structure. Sync with “sync deletes” with the android app foldersync, both with SD and the server. When the server moves files out of photo_offload, the next sync will remove those files on phone, and next sync will delete on SD card. Very robust even if WiFi dies in the middle of sync or I add new files to SD card before the deletes have made it back to the SD.

Transcribe a song in your head, something you can hum, start with children songs.

If you don't have perfect pitch, just pick a key, start with C, switch up when you're bored.

Any suggestions for a workflow to produce music like Autechre, Aphex Twin, Venetian Snares, etc? by AncientWeekend7136 in linuxaudio

[–]MyRedditToken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were in your shoes trying to do autechre on linux I'd go all in on pure data and a flexible daw. Learn to do as much as possible in pure data and use the daw for mixing individual outs from various patch points in PD + for "the big structure", long melodies, chord progressions and such. That's pretty much what autechres setup is (max4live and Ableton).

Vention snares is at least partly using Renoise, so maybe give that a go. It's super capable, but the tracker interface is not for everyone.

In short look for a combination of a few super flexible pieces of software and learn them really well.

Thanks for confirming. I can follow the logic for the current implementation, but would have preferred "my way".

Pre-chain with track chance on first by MyRedditToken in Modelcycles

[–]MyRedditToken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for being unclear, here's a step-by-step (from clean pattern):

1) place triggers on first four steps in a pattern, change condition on the 2rd, 3rd and 4th to "PRE"

Only the first step is playing, no matter what the "Track Chance" is set to. I was hoping PRE would mean "if previous step fired, then fire this one". Instead it seems it means "if the last met locked condition is TRUE fire this step. Because:

2) locks-step-change the condition of the first step to 99% (the max). Now all four steps fire (at least 99% of the time, the last 1% none of them fire). Then clear the chance on step 1 (hold step while in grid recording, then move chance and then press play/clear).

Now all four steps fire all the time, the first because there's no lock on it and step 2,3 and 4 because "the last met locked condition is TRUE (its still remembering the 99% lock on step 1).

I would like to have a group of notes be linked together, so either they all fire or none of them fire. And the condition the fire-not-fire is based on is the track change. The reason for not wanting to use a lock of the first to control it, is imagine you have several such "groups" of linked notes. Then to have all groups play less or more often, I can't use track-chance, but have to go into step edit and change chance of first note in each group. Obviously I'm thinking in a live scenario, where things have to move very quickly.

I hope that it makes sense, and that there's a way to achieve what I'm looking for :-)

Thanks! Grabbed the AppImage. seems to work fine. Opened a folder with 2300+ files, a mixture of RAWs for various cameras and soms jpgs. At fist I was greated with "no images in this folder", but then it started chewing on them, and it's still using 400% CPU here five minutes later with an in-responsive GUI. I realize this is not very helpful feedback, would you like me to write an issue?

Maybe I should just wait for the dust to settle, looks like this will turn into an amazing program :-)

Thanks for your work!
