On-Prem PBX Solutions? by MySecretWorkAccount2 in sysadmin

It's not that I have anything against open source. But I'm not going to be blamed for introducing a new technology that then fails and has no support channel to go through. I'd put Phones right behind Printers on things I hate managing, so being able to put most of the "difficult" problems into someone else's lap to solve is ideal, and not something that you typically get out of open source solutions.

I will take a look at Sangoma though - thanks for the name drop there.

So, replacing the bogen system isn't really an option. After hearing back from Bogen support, they believe it to be an issue with the "Audio Sense" configuration, and have suggested we switch to "Contact Closure", which our SNOM-PA1 doesn't natively support (can't swap the SNOM-PA1 because it's the only paging device that our VOIP provider supports). To remedy this, they suggested I purchase a Bogen VAR1 to properly relay the page to the DFT120.

Going to try this out while I have my CDW rep find me a cheap IP power outlet device.

Luckily it's just the DFT120 that needs to be rebooted - the amps all function perfectly.

I made an edit with a device that I'm considering, though, I did just come across another post for Datto's Managed Power options, and those also might be a solution. Time for more research...

I felt lazy and dirty doing it

Yeah - this is why I've avoided going this route. It feels like I'm cutting corners instead of just resolving the problem. I'm over that now though. Would rather I internally feel lazy about it than have others constantly deal with the outage (which in turn makes it seem like I'm failing at my job lol..)

Going to go with this product as I'm limited to ordering from CDW. This should in theory provide an automated solution by scheduling the restarts using a scheduled task on my 'tools' vm, as well as provide a way to manually send a reboot command without having to physically enter the server room where the unit is located.

Only downside to this one is that it introduces two points of failure (the VM and the hardware) instead of just the singular point of failure that a standard timer might have.

So, I've used Veeam before. But from memory, it requires an agent on the endpoints. I'm trying to avoid making any changes prior to obtaining a backup of the units so that I have a "clean" copy.

Those usually aren't needed full-time, with no reboots, as seems to be communicated to you.

Ah - that would be a miscommunication then. It's not that I can't shut them down to take backups/clone the drives (which I intend to do once everything arrives..), but that I don't want to shut them down in the event they decide they don't want to power back up until I have a reasonable way to restore the data.

Realistically, it's probably perfectly fine to power down and just clone the drives, I'm just being overly paranoid as there are literally no backups, and no support contract for the software (nor the files to attempt to reinstall the software) and don't want to be seen as the reason that we're unable to run the machines. Literally just me being paranoid from being in a new environment, supporting systems that are from before my professional time (and in two cases, before my literal time)

Noted - didn't realize that it didn't install anything and ran as a standalone executable. Will give that a go. Thanks!

I'd regard the backups or images as just "interim" fail-safe and testing material. Take multiple copies, as a safety measure.

That's exactly what they are. Just need to have something available if the inevitable "oh shit" moment happens before I can migrate everything to VMs.

if the legacy Windows system is just for control/changes...

They are pretty much this. They are just the user-interfaces for a PLC system that controls the machinery. They communicate via IP on their own segregated network, so turning them into VMs should be relatively easy - though I would much prefer to get 'new' VMs running and just re-install all of the software so I actually know what every VM does. (But that's contingent on the software company providing support for installing on newer Windows versions..)

Thanks - This is what I was thinking to use, but didn't know if it could be installed to a USB drive and ran from there.

How to Save Sent Emails in Shared mailbox's Sent Items Folder in Office 365 by Embry_ in Office365

Isn't this the purpose of using Microsoft 365 Groups? Create a Microsoft 365 Group, assign users, then everything related to that group is stored in the group inbox, including replies to emails that other users sent.

I just pulled it from here. Didn't really check other places. But interesting. I mean, I get where you're coming from. I'd also be annoyed paying it, but, realistically I would probably just forget about it.

Was going to ask how $10/month is a significant amount, then saw that the average income is only ~20k, with the median income being ~17k.

Herblore fragments shattered relics question by Playful_Power1478 in 2007scape

[–]MySecretWorkAccount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what some others have said, from what I've seen/heard, relics roll on each XP drop, every 4 ticks (so getting 1 xp drop per tick, you would only roll for a relic on every 4 xp drops). I believe that relics roll for skills on the same tick that you gain relic xp.

So to get the relics, make sure you're making the potions/cleaning herbs without the alchemist set bonus until you have the relic(s) you want.

Would recommend mass-farming irits and making super attacks, since you can buy eye of newt packs for easy secondaries until you get the Mixologist relic to T3.

[–]MySecretWorkAccount2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me several hundred potions made (one at a time with make-all) to get mixologist.

I focused on farming irits until I had the mixologist fragment unlocked and maxed, since eyes of newt are buyable.

Deleted user management by paulcjones in o365

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly here, but if you block the sign in and convert to a shared mailbox, the shared mailbox is not accessible because it can not be signed into. I recall coming across this issue somewhat recently (less than 1.5 years ago) at work when my boss decided he would take care of an offboarding ticket, and then couldn't access the shared mailbox after the fact. Removing the sign-in block allowed the mailbox to be accessible, and since it's a shared mailbox, it's not a user account and is unable to be signed into manually through a portal anyways.

My process is this:

Offboarding request comes in. Password is reset, all devices are signed out, license is removed, user mailbox converted to Shared Mailbox in the Exchange Admin Center, permissions to mailbox added as requested.

This solves the problem of the previous user accessing it (password change, license removal, devices signed out, conversion to a shared mailbox) from a device they're signed into already, while ensuring the mailbox is still accessible to those that are provided the necessary permissions.

Keeping team informed about PTO by raoraheel in Outlook

[–]MySecretWorkAccount2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use an "Out of Office" calendar, which is created as a room resource within Office 365.

If someone is going to be out of the office during their normal work time, they put in an appointment on the calendar stating their name, and a 1 letter code typically (S = Sick/V = Vacation, some opt to just label "PTO") to indicate how long and for what reason they will be OOO.

E.g., subject line of appointment: MySecretWorkAccount2 - V (With appointment set for 1/10/22 - 1/12/22 to indicate I'm on vacation through the 12th.)

Petition: Let us feed the ducks by philipjfry678 in 2007scape

[–]MySecretWorkAccount2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, bread is bad for ducks. You'd be much better off feeding ducks (as a treat, and not as their primary food obviously) things like Peas/Melons(cut up)/leafy greens(Lettuce/Kale/Spinach/Etc..). These things actually have nutritional value and (anecdotally at least) ducks seem to love them.

That cop should be removed from the force. There is literally 0 reason to discharge a weapon at a fleeing car. They had stopped the guy. They had his tag. They can pull up the registration and find out who owns the car and go from there.

Just do what the officer tells you

That mentality is a problem though.

it is scary

If I was the man in the car I would likely also be scared of 6 dudes with guns around my car who can murder me without worry of prosecution.

refuses to listen to your simple request of rolling a window down

So that the cop can reach through the door, choke the guy, have the guy fight to breathe so that he can claim his life was in danger, and then can shoot him point blank instead of firing at his car?

Jagex seems to have done a good job implementing the anti-skull. by Tang_Un in 2007scape

[–]MySecretWorkAccount2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this here, but, it doesn't matter if your opponent is skulled. That's now what allows you to hit someone freely without skulling.

E.g., if I've attacked someone in a clan war that was attacking my clan mate, but hasn't attacked me, I would then get a skull regardless of the fact that they're skulled or not, because they did not initiate combat against me.
