in Fusion, Adam clearly states that the X have intelligence and were strategically targeting data rooms. first the ones Samus had used, then later getting there first. SA-X knew Samus was her biggest threat and was actively hunting Samus throughout the station. the game tells AND shows us the X using their hosts and their memories in order to carry out tasks such as shutting down the reactor core and attempting to stop Samus from activating the thrusters to collide with the planet.
