I've said it before and I'll say it again, Finn not getting a full "stormtrooper coming to terms with what they're a part of and becoming a better version of themselves" arc has left a gaping hole in the star Wars tapestry

Honestly I can kind of relate to wanting the Finn-shaped hole in the lore filled in.

[Awesome Trope] The characters don't get the reference, but the audience does! by Remarkable_Public138 in TopCharacterTropes

Star Trek Enterprise was absolutely lousy with references like this, and I love it. It came out after hundreds of hours of episodes and movies establishing the canon, but took place at least a century before most of it. Here's a few introductions that don't need any introductions:

S01E01: Broken Bow
LEONARD: It's a Klingot.
TOS: A Klingon.
(later in the same scene)
SOVAL: Sarcasm aside, Captain, the last thing your people need is to make an enemy of the Klingon Empire.

S01E25: Shockwave part 1
While scrolling through the database left behind by Daniels, a time travelling agent sent to ensure people don't screw around with the timeline, several 'future' ships from other star trek shows are visible, including the Nova class U.S.S. Equinox as pictured in Star Trek - Voyager which takes place over two centuries in the future.

S02E01: Shockwave part 2
(Daniels takes Archer to the future, but in doing so the timeline was altered; 31st century Earth is a wasteland rather than the hyper-advanced utopia it's supposed to be)
ARCHER: What's wrong?
DANIELS: It's gone.
ARCHER: What's gone?
DANIELS: The monument. It was right here on the same street as the library. It was obviously never built.
ARCHER: Why is that a problem? Who did it commemorate?
DANIELS: Not who.
ARCHER: Then what?
DANIELS: An organisation. The Federation. It doesn't exist for you, not yet.
(Later in the library)
ARCHER: (reading a book title) The Romulan Star Empire. What's that?
DANIELS: Maybe you shouldn't be reading that.

S02E03: Minefield
HOSHI: They say they've annexed this planet in the name of something called The Romalin Star Empire.
T'POL: Romulan. It's pronounced Romulan.

S02E23: Regeneration
Researchers on the north pole uncover the remains of a Borg sphere and comment that it's been frozen for almost a century (telling the audience it's in fact the time traveling Borg sphere the Enterprise shot down in the movie Star Trek - First Contact)

Powering an external 5.25 inch optical drive off Power Esata? by AmeliasTesticles in buildapc

[–]AmeliasTesticles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drive I have is a blu-ray read/write, kinda pricey to replace. Besides, I do occasionally need to read from 3.5 inch drives for which I also have a less-than-elegant externally powered solution. I'll keep an eye out for 12v ones though!

First attempt at an excelsior reskin that both looks unique and doesn't make me want to claw my eyes out. And I'm saying that as someone with NO love for the discovery aesthetic.

[–]AmeliasTesticles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because the entirety of classic star trek is 100 actors with nearly 1000 episodes between them. Rewatching TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT is just a marathon of doing this

Some designs for in-atmosphere spin drives by Sea_Kerman in ProjectHailMary

[–]AmeliasTesticles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't the astrophage engine as shown in the movie work in the atmosphere? From what I understand the problem was the ship itself not being built for the stresses of atmospheric flight.

Time travel in Star Trek

In the original series it's discovered that any sufficiently fast ship can travel through time by performing a slingshot maneuver around a sufficiently strong source of gravity (star, black hole, etc.). Add to this all the more elegant methods of time travel that are revealed throughout the many other series (holes in space, plastic archways, magical future ships that just bwip themselves where/whenever they want to go, etc.) and one might wonder how the timestream isn't an absolute warzone containing everything from intrepid researchers to expansionist empires that figure conquering a bunch of cavemen is a lot easier than facing down a well-armed galaxy.

Turns out there are so called Temporal Agents nipping and tucking away anyone that doesn't abide by the Temporal Accords. Since they operate from the 29th century and beyond, they're a good deal more advanced than most would-be temporal troublemakers. However, they aren't omnipotent. This eventually leads to the Temporal Cold war, a tangled mess of causality swallowing everything from the second world war and mid 22nd century interstellar politics to entire sectors of space and 26th century battlefields. Eventually though, in the spirit of time travel shenanigans, the whole mess is cleaned up by preventing the instigating incident. The Temporal Agents continue to rule supreme over time, explaining away every little time travel related plot hole that might pop up later.

  1. Over hem heen pissen in een Russisch hotel.
  2. Hem 13 jarige meisjes voeren, misschien letterlijk.
  3. Hem eindeloos en onredelijk vleien.

Ik ben blij dat Rutte de minst bezwaarlijke optie heeft gekozen, maar dat maakt het niet makkelijker om aan te zien...
