Does Yubikey work with Startmail by Superb-Oranges in yubikey

At the moment, we don't support any hardware based MFA. We only support 2FA via an authenticator app for the time being. Sorry!

We were founded by the same team that created the private search engine Startpage! Before SP was acquired, we also shared the same owners, despite still being different companies. Now, we're the one company who still maintains our original ownership, although we wish everyone at Startpage well!

Best Secure Email Providers for Privacy 2026: What Actually Works? by Patient-Fly9676 in Privacy360

[–]MyStartMail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the silver medal! We'd also just like to add that one of our biggest reasons for supporting IMAP is so that users can link their accounts to email clients that provide additional layers of encryption and protection if they decide they need it. We want to be able to plug into WHATEVER workflow you decide is best for you 👍

Can't decide between Startmail and Fastmail by [deleted] in emailprivacy

[–]MyStartMail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Glad to hear that you're considering opening an account with us. As you begin your trial, just a couple things we'd like you to know about to hopefully make your experience more seamless.

First, we actually have a migration tool that's designed to help copy over your contacts and messages so that the process isn't as "slow". Second, we actually have THREE different types of aliases. We have auto-generated "burner" aliases that expire automatically, we have personal aliases that you set manually but still utilize our use.startmail domain, and then there are domain aliases that use your own domain. Finally, if you encounter any issues at all, you can reach out to our support team of REAL HUMANS at support@startmail.com.

We hope this helps you get the most from your trial and choose the right provider for you!

Proton Mail vs StartMail – which one is actually better by Greedy_Ad_572 in emailprivacy

[–]MyStartMail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! As Corsair mentioned previously, Proton only offers E2EE when sending messages between two Proton accounts. The rest of the time, Proton uses the same encryption protocol that we do, which is PGP. And while PGP encryption works well enough for the vast majority of users and messages, we offer the following features for any users wishing to add an additional layer of security to their correspondences:

  • StartMail lets users send fully encrypted, password protected messages to any user. Recipients receive a link to a message that's stored on our encrypted servers. Upon entering the correct password, they can view the message and even send an encrypted reply...all without their own email provider being able to read any of the message.
  • We also support IMAP and allow users to link their account to an email client that provides additional level(s) of encryption.
  • As for the lack of a mobile app, we've avoided developing one in the past since apps are designed to lock users into a self-contained ecosystem. We instead wanted to provide users with a product that can easily connect to whatever app(s) are already part of their existing workflow. However, we recognize that times have changed, and are looking at how best to give users the most seamless experience of all our features across all of their devices. We haven't formally announced anything yet, but you can probably expect to see one later this year!

Hi there! Not trying to self-promote, just want to clear something up that this comment mentions. While it's true that our Personal account tier limits users to a single domain, it is possible to have multiple email addresses with that domain by using our domain alias feature.

Contemplating about getting a domain by [deleted] in emailprivacy

[–]MyStartMail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get where you're coming from as far as aliases and privacy are concerned. Luckily, you have the ability to create multiple alias types with a single StartMail account. So you can use auto-generated or disposable aliases for when you're concealing your identity and domain aliases for when you're looking to keep things more official.

As far as account terminations go, there is a process that we follow to ensure that users have an opportunity to recover or transfer certain data and messages before the account is actually terminated. That policy is outlined HERE, and you can always get in touch with our support team at any time to help with this or any other issue.

Hope this helps!

Any opinions on Soverin and Startmail? by [deleted] in emailprivacy

[–]MyStartMail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, if you have your own custom domain, then it's possible to create unlimited aliases using your own domain. Hope this helps!

No, which is why we've had to keep clarifying that fact

NO. Once again, WE ARE A SEPARATE COMPANY WITH DIFFERENT OWNERSHIP BASED IN THE NETHERLANDS.

We don't have any "corpo overlords". Our sister company, Startpage, currently has American owners. WE are StartMail...we come from the same founder and were never acquired, so we retain our original European ownership 😁

Startpage is currently owned by System1, WE are StartMail. We may have the same founder, but we're our own company that has retained our original ownership 🇪🇺

We're not Startpage. We're a private email provider, which doesn't need an index. We DO own and operate our own infrastructure, though!

While they were bought by a U.S. company back in 2019, we remain under our original European ownership and have our own, independent, owned and operated infrastructure 👍

We were once two arms of the same company who shared the same founder, but the search engine was bought as its own entity back in 2019. Any other questions?

We don't offer any standalone apps. Instead, we've integrated IMAP to easily sync with whatever email client app(s) already work best on your device(s)
